Hi, and good morning, everyone:-) Got your coffee/tea/etc.? Good.
Yep, I'm still living in a whirl of panic about Mr. Leo, AKA Hubby. I am being optimistic with such enthusiasm 12 hours a day that I spend the other 12 exhausted and scared. I suck at all this "I'll be fine" routine. Too much PTSD (diagnosed) involved.
But I survived the dentist!
EDITED B/C DS MESSED UP FORMATTING AGAIN!!!!
Famous last words:
"The safety catch is pointless." (referring to the one on a gun)
"Hold my beer."
"Anyone can do that. Watch."
"The ice looks safe." (Where I grew up, alas, often someone's last words. At least till they were defrosted...)
"Of course, it's unloaded." (Admittedly, sometimes the last words someone *hears*, having trusted the speaker.)
"I don't need a map." (PRobably not the actual last words, bu tthe last ones known before someone sets off and is on an episode of Missing People..)
"They can't hit an elephant at this distance." Actual last words of US General J Sedgwick, when warned by an aide of enemy snipers. A sniper got him within moments of his saying that.
In 1808, Harvard University formed the first college orchestra in the US. And still, nobody pays much attention to these things. Poor college orchestras. *sigh*
Happy Birthday to Toronto, Ontario, Canada --- sort of. Today in 1834, it was renamed from "York" to Toronto.
In 1886, the first nursing journal was published. It was titled "The Nightingale" for famed nurse Florence Nightingale. More modern ones include "American Journal of Nursing" and similar.
Remember the ALamo! No, seriously. Today in 1836, the siege of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, ended. The army of 3,000 under Santa Anna finally defeated 189 very stubborn men. Nice video and stuff via this link, if you can get your video to work. Mine won't. http://www.thealamo.org/
In 1960, Switzerland finally got around to granting women the right to vote in municipal elections. Yeah. National, sure. Local, no. Wait, what? *headdesk*****
And now to pretend I'm okay. Whee. Healing to all, and hugs as well....
I really hate when DS stops recognizing line breaks/enters unless doubled.... ARGH.
In this past summer school session, I collapsed from pneumonia in front of my students in my classroom while teaching and spent a week in the hospital recovering. I began this work week with a respiratory infection that got worse by Wednesday afternoon, so I told my boss that day I was going to take a sick day Thursday and, if needed, another on Friday to prevent pneumonia again. My...
Good mirning. Morningl Whatever. Stupid fingers. So this charity walk was cancelled. YAY! Now I wake up to an e-mail saying "It's back on, for 24 hours from now."Wait, what? On 24 hours' notice, I gotta... No. Yes. Crap! It's about 2 miles, which for me is a marathon these days, but my biggest issue is it starts at 730AM. And, of course, it's for Special Olympics. Can't let down my loved ones....
