LOL? I think? I had weird nightmares, and woke to discover the cats wanted my attention. Nay, they demanded it. Dahlia is currently on my left arm, in fact. I finally freed myself from our tricksy-Dixie girl, who had opssession of my right hand.
So the porch folks were not here yesterday, lest they show up on schedule. Love that, eh?
Life is weirder as we head into 2021, I've decided.
Weird fact: The edible gold you buy to put on food.... yes, that's gold. Enough, at least. Yet it's copper that is the most valuable metal overall in our society, despite the prices.
Weirder fact: Silver and copper can poison you, but the only knoown case of lethal gold ingestion was a Roman whose greed irked a potentate so much that he melted down gold and poured it down the Roman's throat. Once the situation cooled off, he then had the Roman taken apart (ahem) to get the gold back out, to the last drop.
Edible gold MUST be 23-24 karats, that is, as pure as possible, b/c by itself, gold doesn't react much to anything. That's why it doesn't tarnish. It acn be lethal, btw, but you have to have a LOT of it, regularly, and who can afford *that*?!
Gold compounds were used to treat rheumatoid arthritis when I was young. No idea if they worked, but I remember that weird detail form somewhere.
And in case that's not enough gold for you: A gilded donut can cost up to $100. You're welcome.
I, myself, prefer chocolate. The ancient Mesoamericans used cacao beans for currency, drank the stuff like coffee (straight-up), and used gold for elaborate ornamentation .... as well as iron. The Europeans saw this as stupidity, but to the Meso-and-South-Americans, the iron wasn't as useful as, say, OBSIDIAN. Volcanic glass was plentiful, lethally sharp (we still use it in scalpels sometimes), and did the job. Also, iron being less easily obtained, eh, why bother? Or so we hypothesize. realistically, who knows?
A GOLDEN TUESDAY TO YOU!
Running late today but here's what I rolled over and saw.... Yes, that's a cat. And, yes, she lets us pet the tummy. She demands it, in fact. So, yeah, she's weird.Interesting fact: I have a black cat, which is supposedly bad luck in many Western cultures BUT in Germany, tortie cats (like the one below) are called Gluckskatzen ---- lucky cats! (The u in that has an umlaut.)Why do they get these...
