Trolls in forums
Aggravation factor: 58 percent
The Internet can be a spacious platform for all sorts of community interaction, provided that the participants conduct themselves in a civil manner. Too often, though, they don't.
"I hate when I am on a forum and people just post random comments about how much somebody is a jerk or how their religion saves," said PC World reader Roberta Dikeman of Dublin, California. "Can we please stay on topic--or post that drivel on your own sites!"
Hiding behind the pseudonymity of a Web alias, trolls disrupt useful discussions with ludicrous rants, inane threadjackings, personal insults, and abusive language, deliberately baiting forum regulars into pointless controversy and disharmony.
Trolls lurk everywhere--in Google and Yahoo newsgroups, in blog comment areas, and on specialty message boards created to offer technical help to users.
The free and fruitful exchange of ideas on the Web suffers when Web community owners have to moderate discussions and keep a tight rein on membership. But such actions are among the few effective ways to maintain civility and sanity in online forums. Another approach is for users to police the community themselves by collectively ignoring or dismissing malicious interlopers.
THIS IS PART OF AN ARTICLE FROM PC WORLD THAT LISTED THE 10 MOST ANNOYING THINGS ON THE WEB. JUST WANTED TO SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE. GOOD ADVICE FOR UNWANTED POSTS.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I ALWAYS say and have posted this here a bunch...If you want to have peace on this site, then you have to look inside and be the peace you want to see in the world! As best as is humanly possible to do so, that is!
In the same vein...If you want to see peace or to not have negativity, well, the best way to counterattack negativity is to "ignore the negative attitudes outright and ONLY spend ones depleted energy on the situation if the person chooses to be nice!"
You cannot prove anything by fighting back, meaning attacking, not standing up for your rights in a matter of principles, that's fine, but the ONLY true way to prove yourself and your point about having peace is to "Be who you are and let others decide to like you or not of their own accord!"
Take care,
Stay sane!
just be careful. if it were an actual troll we would know it..
It's nothing on the board where people can see. It's all behind the scenes in the profiles and messages.
There was a vow, under her last, deleted profile, to get rid of me and a handful of my friends. She vowed to created a plan and continue to work on it until complete.
I'm not playing this stupid crazy game. She wants this place she can have it.
It's not what it once was anyway. Many people have gone.
She really is sad. It's obvious from previous threads and posts that she's having trouble with meds, etc., and has admitted that she's feeling crazy. I just wish she would vent her crazy in other directions. You can read all about it in the PRAY FOR VERONICA post further back.
I wish people would not use other peoples real names here ..it's SO childish...I wish people would find other things to do...(sorry, Aspire, I had to...)
If she doesnt like us thats fine, however she needs to act adult and leave us alone, which included not responding to journals, esp. if those members r not her friends. If I did not care for someone i certainly wouldnt be snooping around in their journals, then post something just to cause trouble.
Kabella, please dont leave. This was her goal, to have all of us gone, so far it hasnt worked on any of us yet, so please just ignore her, send everything to doug, do not respond to her.
This site was slowly getting back to what it once was, well other than a few small problems.
Please dont leave kabella.
peace to all.
hugs,
morus
How can someone read each others journals if they lock them to "just friends"? Maybe we should all keep them locked to that setting and it would keep the snooping to a minimum. I have learned to lock mine... Just a suggestion.
Anyway, I'm sorry that you guys had to go through all of this. I really am.
Peace again, to all!! Love, Morus
I love this site and wish we could all just get along, but personailites clash, and thats the bottom line.
We are all alike in many ways, but also very different. We deal with our issues with FM and a myriad of other illnesses, and personal tragedies differently.
I jus hope we can all get back to helping each other, and more importantly being compassionate for one another and loving each other.
We have a great community here.
Hugs,
Laurie
