Good morning! OK, I could ahve slept more but there was thsi thing called a cat duet. They were going ROssini on me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sluzi-QGtyA
BTW, I've seen a non-opera quality performance of this that was much better, IMO. But they were great amateurs with different vocal qualities, one very round-operatic and one more breathy rock-musical. And, btw, rivals in school choir! This other version is fun, IMO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNyR6rsGDyg
Tired yet? Yeah, I know, but if you ever owned or loved or hated cats, that about sums it up. I always imagined this was penned after someone threw a boot at quarreling tomcats...
Therapy today is... Your teeth!
We talk about GI health a *lot* here, but we do not always mention that GI health begins at the lips long before it "ends" at the... uh... well, y'know.
How are your teeth? Gums?
Think it's not relevant?
Consider this: People with their own teeth have better chewing capacity and that stimulates saliva production, which is a pre-digestion aid. Being able to really chew means your food is better digested. This causes less irritation and more nutrition. THat's the Fortune Cookie Version.
The more complex version is... Your GI system starts at your lips. That's the intake. We worry about probiotics for our guts and butts. Guess what? Worry about th emouth, too! Those bacteria and the balance of acidity/alkalinity provided by proper saliva (yep, saliva) excretion are Step One in the Digestion and Nutrition dance.
Before you freak out? Yes, there may be a link between gum/tooth disease and heart ailments, as well as other issues --- may be --- but there is definitely al ink to GI issues.
Ironically, this link is rarely studied. Not too glamorous. And, for some reason, the link is "GI issues affect the mouth". This is true. Acid reflux, for example, can scar the esophagus, so yes, issues can travel "up"... THat said, your intestinal biology is affected.
Most obvious way? What you can eat. Raw veg and fruit, and nuts, are very difficult for those with bad teeth and/or gums --- and that is obviously a bad thing. Let's face it, if you can not chomp a carrot, you're reducing fiber intake (bad), and limiting nutrition (bad). My fibro started when I had dental issues from a misaligned bite --- due to a bad wisdom tooth surgery, just don't ask --- and my one doc thinks that helped reduce my body's ability to find its "good balance" under stress and illness. Is he right? I dunno. The timing is there. Coincidence is not causation.
BUT people who start with poor dental health end up with poorer overall health. It's not just theo ther way around. *(headdesk* Consider the meds we take. A lot affect our mouths --- they can cause dry mouth (reducing your saliva's ability to help your teeth and gums stay washed in happy normal balanced body fluid), or swollen gums (my epilepsy meds) that will encourage disease and decay, or can even cause enough nausea that our teeth are affected by frequent vomiting. Whatever the medication side effect... TELL YOUR DENTIST...
YOu'd be amazed how many dentists are 1. clueless and/or 2. don't ask. So be proactive. Brush, floss, rinse, eat healthy, and be aware!
OK, I have to go deal with my own Rossini divas. Much purring hugs and healing to everyone! And if you can spare my fam a thought,t hank you. One of my uncles died rather unexpectedly and we're waiting to fin dout what exactly it was. I hate waiting for autopsies. *sigh* Done it before, and it sucks. Meanwhile, we just have to get our heads around it. He was the sort of guy you'd figure would die at 115 and still be cussing and golfing and all that...
Good morning, from the land of "I slept 5 hours, but God forbid Hubby not wake me to ask me if we should check the cats, then he goes back to sleep and I am awake to deal with cats...." BTW, no neighborhood cats out in this lovely 10*F (-4*C) with nasty wind child weather. He was worried about ours. Who sleep on a sleeping bag and are probably sleeping more than I get to, an din more comfort....
