Hurr: A hug-purr. A new word my one dear friend and I invented for the purpose. HURR!
Do you have a fun word for a good feeling?
I make up words all the time. Or, rather, make portmanteaus ----- smash two words together, as in "hurr". We see it in "hangry" (hungry/angry combo).
My cats "smurr" ---- smug purr.
they get "Slanky: Sleepy-cranky.
Why do I do this? My mom's family often did not remember an English word and would throw one in that waas sorta-kinda near it, and I had to always be careful of words. You haven't lived till you are in my brain running through four language options and none of 'em seem to fit, and you just want to say "that! There! Thingy! Whatsis!"
So when I was learning German the last couple years (barely), I'd get stuck... and then subsittue a SPANISH word. I had no idea I knew that much Spanish, LOL. When I'm stuck, I do. And then I was trying to follow a convo in Spanish and got stuck and used a German word. And somewher ein all that, yes, English is what I speak 99.9% of the time, but don't tell my brain! It's worst when I'm just automatically saying a random word/phrase in Polish, and someone is like, "Is that Russian?"
Polish is closest to Slovak. Neither are remotely like Russian. First of all, they retain a nasal vowel sound; Russian and other Slavic languages ditched the nasal vowels in the last century. the first different most people discuss is the alphabets. No. It's the *sound*. If you grow up around one, you will always know. Always.
Like Finns can tell from Norwegian, and Dutch can tell from German, but outsiders are always thinking, "Eh, close enough."
Altho' I warn that Poles are much crankier about being called Russian than anyone is about any of the rest, b/c, quite frankly, national hatred of Russia goes back three centuries. Don't. Call. Us. Russian.
It's like calling someone from Appalachia from the Midwest. Oh I don't think so! ;-P
HURRS! to all
