WENT TO THE DR TODAY. AFTER WAITING TIL ALMOST 3PM, ON AN EMPTY STOMACH (WITH A BLOOD PRESSURE OF 110/62), NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS AGITATED. THE p.a. WAS MIFFED 'CAUSE IT GOT BACK TO HER THAT I QUESTIONED WHY SHE TOOK A CHART FROM THE BACK OF THE PILE...BLAH BLAH BLAH.
SHE STARTED GIVING ME A HARD TIME WHEN I TOLD HER I WAS THERE FOR SCRIPTS. WHEN I MENTIONED THE HYDRO, SHE WENT INTO A TIRADE ABOUT HOW IT IS ADDICTIVE AND WHO PRESCRIBED IT??!! THEN SHE STARTED IN ABOUT MY WEIGHT AND SHE REALLY GOT ME STARTED...GEEZ. WHEN I ASKED FOR MY SOMA, MORE OF THE SAME CRAP. "WELL, I'LL GIVE YOU A SHORT SCRIPT, BUT YOU HAVE TO GO TO RHEUMATOLOGIST, PAIN MANAGEMENT. I HAD ARGUMENTS AGAINST BOTH. KNEW I WAS BEING A PAIN, BUT SHE REALLY WAS MAKING ME WANT TO BLOW HER BRAINS OUT!
SHE LEFT THE ROOM, AND SOME TIME PASSED. NEXT THING I KNOW...A NURSE COMES IN LOOKING TO TAKE BLOOD. I WENT NUTS AT THIS POINT AND ASKED "WHAT THE "HECK" IS THIS"??? WHAT DOES SHE WANT, A TOX SCREEN?" AT THIS THE NURSE GOT NERVOUS AND LEFT THE ROOM AND THEN RETURNED, AND REPEAT...LOOKING AT THE BLOOD ORDER, YEP THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE DID! NEVER EVEN CAME BACK, THAT COWARDLY #@*$@#!!
I GAVE THEM THE BLOOD, AND THE URINE...MY GOD, WILL IT EVER END?
I CAUGHT MY DR AND YOU KNOW WHAT HALF BRAINED THING SHE SAID...IT'S COMMON PRACTICE WHEN SOMEONE IS ON PAIN MEDS. WE NEED TO KNOW YOU ARE TAKING THE MEDS. WHAT??!!!!!! YOU THINK MAYBE I AM SELLING THEM ON THE STREET CORNER??!! IF ANYTHING, YOU WOULD BE LOOKING TO SEE IF SOMEONE WAS ABUSING THEM, NOT IF THEY WERE TAKING THEM.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WILL FIND A NEW OFFICE. 10 YEARS I WAS GOING THERE!
GONNA STOP NOW, BEFORE I HAVE A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. THANK YOU ALL FOR LISTENING AND FOR YOUR SUPPORT. TO THINK, AT THE AGE OF 50 TO BE THOUGHT OF AS A POTENTIAL DRUG ADDICT! AMAZING!

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Crazy, ignorant world.
I was going to free clinics, until I had enough of the crap and the very first thing they do is check your blood and urine for drugs and snub their noses in the air like you are drug addict even if everything is clean!
Some people are just poor and can't afford insurance and working outside the home is too hard with this disease when you don't have any sort of medical care! Then you gotta work in pain for god knows how long just to be able to get on any med. plan! Sheesh!
I'm far from whining, just stating the facts!
So anyway, at least you can switch docs and search for a good one! You should count your lucky stars you have options!
There are only a small number of free clinics out there and it is standard practice to assume all or only "poor" people are drug addicts!
I'm sorry people, but if you are seriously poor...1...you are not choosing to have to go to a free clinic and 2...if you are sooooo poor you can't even afford a doctor, what on god's green earth makes someone think you can afford drugs? HA! I mean seriously!
You only get free meds. the first time you walk into a free clinic, then you gotta pay for them just like everything else! How am I assumed to abuse your drugs when I can't even barely afford the doctors visit! HA!
OK! Enough ranting about that my friends!
I understand how frustrating it can be to be assumed to be a drug addict when all you want is a doctor who gives a flip about you even a tiny bit!
I mean get this...my boyfriend has a really bad back at times and he went through a time when he could hardly walk and one morning he wakes up with a really bad feeling in his side like maybe an appendicitis or something and he couldn't move his back and he was doubled over! So I rush him to the ER and get this...he can't even walk and we look on the chart printout the doctor gave us and it shows that they checked him for narcotics! Mind you, he has never done hard drugs and they freaking checked him for all sorts of narcotics!
It was strange to get a chart printout to begin with because I went to the ER and never got one! All the doc a t the ER told me was basically to get more rest! He told me my situation was "probably just a bunch of little things that are unrelated!" HUH!? The nurse at the ER is the one that helped me see I might need a 12hr fasting test for my blood sugar and also to look into hypoglycemia! At least she cared because she said she had hypo herself! So she understood what I was saying and going through!
I kinda think the ER with my boyfriend wanted to show us how they checked him for drugs or something! Just because it turns out that all they did beyond this drug test was x-ray his stomach! Now I'm certain that if they gave him a back x-ray, they would see how much pain he can get into with his messed up back!
So yeah, I've had nurses walk up to me in free clinics, hand me a urine cup and walk away, no instructions, nothing, just walk away!
Your doctors office stinks and I'm proud of you for switching! We don't need doctors who's job it is to care for the sick to assume we are just fakers and drug addicts! That's not fair at all! All we want is to stop feeling sooooo sick all the time and for someone to take the time to do their jobs right and care about people like they where supposedly trained to do!
I mean, what other reason should you choose to become a doctor to begin with?
Take care,
Stay sane!
I think that when doctors act like your doctor did, they actually cause us to "stockpile" our meds because of the fear that they won't write the script the next time...
I hope you can find a good solution, whether it be a pain management clinic, a rheumy or whatever. You deserve that support.
Soft hugs, Deb
