This should clear up the discussion about Lyrica.
Lyrica is a good medication. It was originally used for diabetic neuropathy and for nerve pain from spinal causes.
The only reason that Lyrica is now FDA approved for the treatment (NOT CURE) of Fibromyalgia is the company had clinical trials and more people than not got some relief.
They did this so that for the next 2 or 3 years I don't remember, the medication will not be in generic form and the drug maker keeps the patent and makes more money for itself.
This keeps the cost of Lyrica high, and several insurance companies are not even covering it anymore. So for all those who get relief there is an equal number it won't help for two reasons.
1. It just doesn't help.
2. You can't afford to use it.
My suggestion is try the med, if your hands or feet swell call your doctor, edema is serious. You most likely will gain weight, everyone does. Weigh the extra weight and the pain it brings with whatever relief you get from the medication. At 40 pounds heavier I am not better off for having used it.
If it helps great, if it doesn't don't despair, now that Fibro and MPS are so widely diagnosed and there is one med for us, surely drug makers are developing more meds to sell us.
Ouch

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
You don't feel so bad about stopping the meds if aren't for you. You can ditch them guilt free.
I thought that the drug comps. got 17 yrs. before a patent ran out. Maybe I'm wrong. Oh, well.
I did have the weight gain. I'm not so sure whether it helped the pain or not. I wasn't on it very long. I THINK it helped, but I was so swollen up, that I was more concerned about that. I had to get off of it after a week or two. It took two weeks to lose the 22 lbs. of water weight I had put on, but at least it came off quickly.
I agree with getting the samples from the docs. They can get as many samples as they want and can actually keep you stocked if they agree to it. Just talk to them about it before hand. See if they will agree to it. If they really want you to take it, they might hold a months worth for you every month if your ins. won't cover it, and then like Kabella said, if it doesn't work, just toss it, no guilt.
