Geez, did this week take for-freaking-ever or was it me?!
STILL no porch repairs. WTH? Guys? Hello?! Where be they?
Fun fact: We're closing in on the blood clot mystery in vaccines! :-) Johnson and Johnson (or J&J for brevity) and AstraZeneca (AZ, also for brevity) do not use the messsenger RNA tech (mRNA) used by Moderna and Pfizer. Thus, both less effective and more likely to cue up a crazy-a** response from your immune system. (They use a VIRAL VECTOR. That was a stupid-as-sh*t move, IMHO, but hey, they saw dollar signs. Or euro signs, as preferred. Whatever currency.)
How does this work, exactly?
I dug up the molecular biology of it.
Essentially, when the immune system gets a bit crazy ----- as in autoimmune diseases ----- the cells do an odd thing. Well, lots of them. First off, let's look at this wacky bit of weirdness:
STICKY BLOOD. Yep, this is a thing. you "throw clots", in medical parlance, b/c your blood tends to clot b/c your own immune system is attacking it, and attacked cells trigger further resopnse, and next thing you know? GLOP.
In essence, your antibodies think your healthy blood cells are ENEMY! and then your blood cells do what they should: They clot up. INJURY! PRODUCE PLATELETS! ... oops...
So... think of a cell like a ham steak with a bone in it. The bone is the nucleus of the cell; the meat of the ham is all that good cell stuff like mitochondria and such; and the fat around the outside is your cell membrane. A virus comes along and sticks onto the fat; the antibodies then freak out and attack all the ham steaks; and now instead of happy ham steaks, you have ham steaks with stuff stuck on, ew yuck gross!
Wow, that was a weird metaphor.
Of coures, I once helped describe orbitals using toilet paper.... Could be worse.
So, since the J&J and AZ vaccines use a VIRAL vector ---- they're triggering the immune system differently than the others, which use messenger RNA to convince the body to make a *little* virus, just enough to recognize. A viral vector vax uses a virus to carry information into your body to trigger that "hi! hate these!" reaction. it's basically the difference between getting two shots of "hints", and one shot of "sucker punch!".
Cut me a break, I had 3 hours of sleep....
Or, to put it in a picture:
Well, in th eUS it is Mothers Day tomorrow/today (Sunday). And here we are. Mothers and not-mothers and maybe-mothes..... but also Kids With Moms. What is YOUR perfect Mother's Day in 2021? Mine would be a hot rock massage and then tropical drinks on a beach.B/c I'm pretty sure all moms feels this way at some point: And then there's these kidsMay we all be kind to our mothers, remember our...
