Good morning! For those in he way of any bit of Hurricane Matthew, good wishes, prayers and luck to you. For thsoe in th way of a certain cold front, ditto. (Oucie.) Quite the disrupted weather weekend here on the US East Coast, one way or another.
Well, the drywall guy arrives in a bit. Finally. We have no reason to think our plumbing is still flawed, although Hubby's "man bathroom" (the spare bathroom) lacks a toilet. I am *not* amused. Of course, the cheap-o model I ended up with courtesy the Roto-ROtten folks? OMG. It makes this *noise* that sounds like a vacuum cleanetr is drowning. Ack! Scares the dickens out of us. If I can ever afford it, I'm replacing it. I'm 99 percent sure a toilet making that noise is possessed by evil... Just kidding! (I hope.)
In 1949, the German Democratic Republic was formed, better known to us and histoyr as East Germany. Today, that region still feels different from West Germany, but it tends to be more distinct in, of course, olderr generations. Which is cool. Gives me hope that there really can be "healing", over time.
in 1968, the US film industry adopted the ratings system of "G" to "X". I'm told (but cannot confirm) that "R" originally stood for "risque". I dont' know what to believe, but let's face it, that makes as much sense as anything else, I suppose. Whoops, Movie Nerd Hubby just said "Restricted". OK, I stand corrected. Not risque, restricted. Huh. Go, Hubby!
Nerd alert! Happy birthday to Niels Bohr! Quantum theory, physics, Nobel laureate: https://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/physics/laureates/1922/bohr-facts.html
He and Einstein, btw, went a few rounds, but nobody blames them. The same questions plague theoretical physics today. That's why they call it theoretical...
In 1956, Al Carmichael of the Green Bay (Ida's) Packers set an NFL record with a kickoff return of 106 yards. Sadly,t he Chi-Bears still beat the Packers, but hey, still cool to hit the record books (where he remains, btw, I think in tenth place now? my football digest is lost in the chaso of the house repairs).
If you eat "florentine" food, sorry, you just ate spinach! Yep, that's the primary vegetable that makes a dish "Florentine". Not that Florence is known for its spinach, but hey, this is cuisine. Why does it have to make sense? Dang skippy it doesn't!
Meanwhile, a clown scare is rocking some parts of hte US. Clowns are, in fact, a common phobia. Not top ten worldwide, since the Western-style clown isn't, duh, global.... but clowns can terrify people readily. The actual top ten phobias? Spiders are numero uno, followed by snakes/reptiles; heights; open/crowded spaces (both termed, oddly, agoraphobia, tho' agora is Greek for marketplace); dogs (yep, dogs); thunderstorms/lightning; claustrophobia; germs; flying, and in tenth, globally, a fear of holes. Yes, holes. Wow, that one surprised heck outta me. It's called trypophobia. Fear of clowns, btw, is coulrophobia. It is *not* recognized by diagnositc manuals or World Health, but the exaggerated features/masked expressions of a clown mean a person can't *tell* what intent is... setting off fear.
Also, of course, infamous serial killer (US) John Wayne Gacy would sometimes dress up as a clown. Yeah. I am definitely on the clown-phobe list, btw. When I can't tell what the body and face say, I can't tell if I'm in danger. I thus assume I am. Yes, I'm very feline that way.
OK, everyone out there have a safe, warm, comfy day, an dplease don't overdo, okay? We're all sounding pretty overdone as it is, so give yourselves a nice cozy break today:-) Me, I'm in the rainy zone, so I'm drinking hot tea and dealing with the usual mayhem. Mom needed things at the pharmacy, and we took her, b/c she wanted to see if she couled "guewss" her bill by adding the prices up as we went. Didn't work. Wore her out, wore us out. Never take for granted your ability to do basic math...
Hugs to all, from the fuzzy warm blanket zone...
Good morning! Running a bit late, but I did sorta sleep. Awake until 2 AM. Why?Our neighbor's kids were out playing until 130 AM. They are aged 5 and 8 years old. Why were they out? No idea. Scream-laughing and running, etc.? No idea. Parents? No idea. Just... No idea. Every time we'd doze off, they'd charge past our house again on their bicycles in the night.Folks, it's 130 AM. Do you know where...
