I went to see my pain management doc today. While I was waiting for him the nurse handed me a piece of paper and asked me to read over it and sign it.
Heres a few of the things that were on the paper:
During my period of treatment with OPC, I shall not recieve any pain medications from any other source, and will not take any over-the-counter pain medications without consulting my physician.
I agree to use only one pharmacy as my source of prescription pain-related medications.
I understand that I will not just show up at the office without an appointment requesting medications. They will not be given to walk-ins at any time. If I refuse to leave I understand that security will be called to remove me.
If my medications are lost, stolen, confiscated, or destroyed they will not be replaced under any circumstances until such time as the original prescription has expired.
I agree to take these medications precisely as my doctor has prescribed them. My medications will not be refilled early. Taking more medication for increased pain must be discussed immediately with my doctor and will not necessarily result in early medication refills.
There are a few more. When I first started to read it I have to admit I felt vaguely offended. Then I thought about why they had to do this in the first place. My doc looked embarrassed about it. I commented to the lady at the front desk that I thought it was bit harsh. She said that my doc in particular didnt want to even give it to his patients but the rest of the practice decided to do it. Im not sure what to think. Im worried. I worry that I wont get pain relief or that Ill have some kid of debacle and I wont get my pain meds. Ahhh!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I'd want to know if they practice one size fits all medicine or do they customize for each individual.
I also wonder if this just isn't a CYA situation b/c they are afraid of being sued and/or prosecuted by the govt for handing out too many drugs.
I'm what you would consider a major skeptic and I always question the status quo, much to the chagrin of many others. So personally, I would ask for a consultation with the doctor to discuss before I signed. I'd have lots of "what if" questions for him.
But, that's just me & MHO. Gentle Hugs.
At one time there was a lot of people over dosing on paracetamol as they didn't realise that most cold/cough preparations contain a percentage of that med and was taking more on top!! Over here, paracetamol can only be bought in small quantities over the counter. If we want a bigger pack you have to go to a pharmacy and the assistants there give you the third degree! We know it ain't good to mix certain meds, but other people, especially addicted people will mix any type of drug to get the fix that they need. It does indeed seem harsh to be treated like that, but the practise have most probably had problems before. Try not to take it personally BB, hugs Owlxx
1. using different pharmacies so they cannot trace how many times pain med's are being refilled.
2.some patients are taking pain meds more than what the dr. is prescribing them, thus running out.
3. patient is lieing about loosing their medication. I lost it, car ran over it, someone stole it, etc.etc.
Then when someone who Really comes in and tells the truth how can they tell? They don't REALLY know you, now do they? Only when they see you montly or every 2 or 3 months. They have so many patients, we know them but all they know us by is our charts.
4.Not receiving from another dr.yes, I can understand that. and over the counter, might be some of the pain medication that you are taking could counteract with over the counter medication.
5.Not coming in to get pain medication refilled. Some patients have misused the system and have made a scene, and have had to be excorted off the property. Maybe using painkillers more than necessary and have gotten addicted, that is the reasons for numbers l, 2,3, and 4.
No, I would not be offended in the least. I would figure that some person or persons had misused the system and have made it rough on the rest of us and that it is the sign of the times. We have to sign the paper and go by the rules. It use to not be this way, but it is now. I use to take it personally when all these forms first started happening, but now I don't. People will just try anything these days and you and I suffer the consequences.
