I had my hearing before an administrative judge last week. My lawyer and I have been battling with social security for years (since 2003) now, trying to get me benefits.
I received a notice that the judge had requested a medical expert. We were thinking it might be a neurologist or a rheumatologist. Turns out it was a psychiatrist (found his name on the web). So my attorney and I had my psychiatrist do an assessment and a functional capacity evaluation. We brought this to the hearing with us.
I testified for about 20 minutes, then the judge started asking the medical expert questions. Sitting and listening to his testimony was one of the most devastating and stressful experiences I have ever been through. He disputed every medical and psychiatric finding that I have one record and he did it with an incredible amount of arrogance partnered with rudeness. At points, I thought, "Does this guy realize I am still in the room?" He did. He took single statements made to my therapist out of context and basically decided that I am mal-adjusted and am choosing not to work. He indicated that I was in a passive-aggressive relationship with my husband and I was choosing to stay in this dysfunctional relationship. He said that all of the symptoms in my records are symptoms that I have reported and are not backed up by any objective evidence.
He even disputed my depression. He said I had a personality disorder, not depression. When my lawyer questioned him, he would not back down at all despite the documentation from my specialists. He said they were all wrong and he kept citing the exact same sentences over and over again.
My lawyer was furious. She said she has never been that angry in a hearing before. I told her I wanted to give up, but she was all fired up and said we were going to fight this till the end.
It really is incredibly discouraging to be treated so rudely and dismissively by a member of the medical community.

I got my notice! My first shot of Covid vax this upcoming weekend:-) Finally got to my part of the list... Whee!***So yesterday was a depressing day in history, so I skipped it. In this era, many heads rolled (or bounced,...

you and your lawyer GET THEM!!!!!!!!!!! What in the hell does your relationship have to do with your health, that alone should have been dismissed as unrelated to your health case.
I agree with trish, some idiots get it right out the gate then BRAG about how they screwed the system while they sit in front of their tv using their money to buy cases of beer and other non necessities while the rest of us who dont screw the system get to struggle to pay our bills on time
God bless hon
I do hope that they will rule in your favor though.
And the funny thing is those that already have a phych doc cannot use their own doc, they have to go to one of their docs. I totally think this is BS.
Try writing to your congressmen or senator. These things need to change. I know several people who get SSDI for having barely any medical conditions and work for cash under the table! makes me so damn mad.
I am sorry u had to encounter that horrible person.
