I am current taking Cymbalta and Elavil and I am in so much pain I can barly move. I got up to post this in hopes that someone can help me. My FMily has always been here for me so I am hoping you'll come through for me again.
My question - what meds works best for you for sleep? I have been on Elavil for about 10 years and I am sick of feeling hung over. I need some thing that will let me enjoy what ever life I have left in less pain that is ok to take with Cymbalta. If you could just let me know what works best for you I'll check it with my Doc and get something better.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this post and anyone that answers me an extra high five to you for your help.
Thank you,
V
P.S. Restoril and Trazodone did not work at all.

Are you on 10mg or 5mg? I switched to 5mg and it's a lot better.

I use ambien CR but I alternate with Melatonin 3mg so that I don't get too used to either. Love Cris

Ambien has been a pretty good help alot of the times, also sometimes in a real pinch i get the otc sleepaid from walmart. the store brand seems to work the best as far as otc. but as far as prescriptions i have had the best luck with Ambien and Ativan

I was feeling hung over from the elavil too. My doc told me to try taking it at 9pm every night instead of before bed (whenever that might be). She said if I still felt groggy to try it at 8:30 pm and so on. After switching it to 9 PM I no longer had any hangover effects. I take 50 mg and it has worked. Nothing else has worked including ambien, lunesta, or rozerum (sp?. After three years of chronic insomnia I am finally sleeping. Hope this helps...hugs jilly

Ambien CR has worked well for me. I get 4 to 6 hours of really good sleep. Enough to get by. Not as much as I would like, but it seems to help.

I too would agree that Ambien (I'm not on the CR) would be the best thing for you. I have to take 2-10 mg. tablets (20 mgs.). How blessed you are to have a doc that really listens to you!

i started realizing that when i took sleeping pills, such as ambien or even tylenol pm, i slept, but i didnt feel rested. it felt more like i had passed out than went to sleep. i have been on nuerotin at night for approx a month (at the 300mg) dose & it has been very helpful. i don't get grogy i am just able to rest. hope it helps! tracy

I take 3 mgs of Melatonin and it works wonderfully! I used to get insomnia about 2 to 3 days a week, now, it's about once every 6 months. Big difference. I was so skeptical as it's about $4. for about 90 day supply!

TRAZADONE 150 MG AT B.T. THEY ARE SCORED SO YOU CAN BREAK THEM DOWN TO 50 MBS.BEST SLEEP I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME....LOVE...HELEN

first, make sure you don't take cymbalta at night because it will give you insomnia. second, I used to be on cymbalta and ambien cr. It worked really well for me until the cymbalta stopped helping with the pain. Now I take elavil, flexeril, and ambien cr.

Lyrica 225mg and Trazadone 150mg with a Zanaflex 2mg. Best sleep in a while...

I too use to feel hung over from Elavil but I started taking it earlier and that helped. Don't know what else you have tried but theres ton of info out there on how to have better sleep. One thing I have been doing is protecting my sleep time, guarding it if you will. I tell those closest to me I am going to bed and will be out of the system, I don't answer the phone. I find I function best when I do get sleep. If I wake up during time I try to stay in bed and rest, but that does not always work either.Have you done a sleep enviroment evaluation? Where you think about, the bed, sheets. pillow, noise, pajamas, activity, all those things? Good luck with your search.

I love Ambien. I can get up and take care of the kids in the middle of the night and go right back to sleep. I also don't wake up with a hang over in the morning and I feel like I slept. My second choice is Lunesta, but it doesn't work as well for me. I can't take Elavil becuase it drops my blood pressure too much. Hugs, Fern

I took Ambien CR and it worked great. It works best on an empty stomach. If you just need help to get to sleep or wake up half way thru the night there's also Sonata that works for 4 hours.

I have been here before, a long long time ago and now I am back.Forgive me for not just saying what I want to say, even under a triple dose of antidepressants it is still raw and seeping and I am hesitant at revealing it as at least under the bandages around my heart I don,t have to look at how raw and wounded. My child was cleaved from my heart by his own actions. my child of ten, turning eleven...
