Saw my PCP today for a number of things including: an on going IBS flare, daily headaches, and some bruising and swelling on my leg.
1s of all... I haven't had this PCP very long, I had to get all new doctors due to our move last year, so this is our 3rd meeting. The 2x I saw him last year, I already complained that my IBS was worsening and all he did was prescribe probiotics. I told him I've tried that in the past and they didn't help, but he insisted anyway.
Fast forward to present time... I've had an IBS flare for like 2 months now that just won't back down. It's mostly on the IBS-C side, but I will have a day here and there where it will flip to the other side of the yo-yo then go right back to being difficult again. Anyway, it's made me totally miserable lately... and nothing, not his probiotics, nor OTC stuff, seem to be helping much (which is what I told him today). I also told him I've had IBS for many yrs, got it while in the military, and had gastroperesis 2013-2015. Just to point out that I've had a long history of gastro problems. He responded by telling me I should go try some YOGURT. And if that doesn't help me, then he strongly believes my IBS, fibro, and headaches, are all phychological. Yup, he said that.
I rolled my eyes so hard, I'm surprised they didn't fall out the back of my head somewhere and onto his office floor. I told him, look, I've heard that speech many years ago and that doc referred me to counseling and it never cured my IBS or fibro. I still get counseling today and guess what, I'm still SICK! So either you help me feel better or step aside and find me someone who WILL. So he got on his computer and started looking up GI specialists, asked me who I'd prefer. Gee, that's more like it! He's also getting me a neurologist for my headaches. I've been taking topamax every day and that was a Godsend years ago because before that, I was incapacitated by the worst migraines on earth. But right now I'm having headpain daily, so anything the neuro can give me tips on or help me, even if it's making a med adjustment, whatever.
There's a history of blood clots on my mom's side, so he looked over my leg and told me to rest asure, it's just bad bruising. But he ordered some blood tests for proteins that may point to genetic markers for easily bruising. And the bruises he saw today were nothing compared to the normal days where there's usally 20+!
He asked me if there's anything else he could help me with, I said no. Thanks. Have a nice day. And walked out.
OK, where's my SIL today?Good news! She's back in Bismarck, North Dakota!And... look out, Mount Rushmore. Oh boy. Let's see if she manages to not get lost following the GINORMOUS signs saying MOUNT RUSHMORE THIS WAY! with arrows on them. (Or whatever signs are out there. Presumably, not easily missed signs.)And, yes, she's oh-so-happy to be away from "all the stress" in Minneapolis, and 'seeing...
There have been so many protests going on, which is ok, but the riots have added to the stress of what's going on. We need to embrace each other and accept each other for our differences. How are protests in your areas? Has there been any looting? How is all of this affecting you? What are you doing to cope? There have been protests in my area and some looting, but not like in bigger metropolitan...
