How do you know if you're getting restorative sleep. I have had insomnia since childhood, been on sedating antidepressants for depression and insomnia for over 25 years. Just heard that just because they let me sleep does'nt mean I am getting the stage I really need. I dream a lot, always stressful dreams, and for awhile now I wake up a lot. I have been in a real bad way with pain and anxiety for 6 months now, but have had fibro, CMP, CFS for years.
One doc wanted me to go to a sleep lab for apnea testing, I don't stop breathing at night though. Are there other kinds of apnea and do you have to go to an expensive lab for the DX? Then is there anything that can be done for it, besides the breathing machine?
Any advise would be great!

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
If they think you're having hypopneas, and that they are preventing you from getting the Stage 4 sleep you need, then they will probably want to put you on a CPAP machine. A CPAP machine helps you to breathe by almost pushing air at you so your airway stays open (it's not as "pushy" as I make it sound, though). A BiPAP machine can be set for two different pressures of air, one for inhaling and one for exhaling. You can Google the words CPAP and BiPAP and find tons of information on them (and plenty of places ready to sell one to you!).
I know it is expensive, but every patient I ever talked to said it was COMPLETELY worth it. Ask about payment plans and financial aid if you don't have insurance to pay for it. Good Luck! *HUGS*
I have what some doctors call Alpha Intrusion. Basically my brain just doesn't go all the way asleep, ever. It misses that good restorative stage of sleep. Apparently it's not that uncommon among us fibromites. Hence the big sleepy zombie feeling much of the time.
The alpha wave thingy was the only thing that showed up on my sleep studies. Sleep apnea is something completely different.
My husband has a CPAP and he is telling me that I need a sleep study, as he believes I have sleep apnea as well. I am in pre-existing condition hell at the moment, but the first second I get past that I am going to have a study.
His CPAP changed his life - I'd love to find something that would do that for me.
