For those of you who are taking Neurontin, can you tell me if it's supposed to be an immediate pain relief? Like taking Advil or Tylenol? Or do you need to be taking it for a few weeks before you see improvement? And does the generic Gabapentin work just as well? I'm taking 300mg at bedtime, and so far I'm not seeing alot of progress. Of course, I've also been hit by insomnia as well, which doesn't help. I think the insomnia may be from weaning off the effexor xr.
Thanks! :)
Thanks! :)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I was supposed to triple the dose but after a week it gave me a bad stomach ache and diarhia. I went back to my regular dose, 900 mg a day, and am fine. But its not ever touched my fibro pain.
I have taken the generic also and didnt see a difference.
Hope his helps you.

Without Neurontin, my nerve endings are just on fire.
I'm glad you asked this question. I've taken Neurontin for the past 15 years and never noticed a difference in my pain. I was told I could take up to 1500 mg per day but I've only been taking 1 tablet a day at 500mg. Wow I'm going to try and take the dose i'm supposed to be on and see if that helps.
Hope you feel better with it.
It does give me dry mouth, but so do a lot of my other meds.
My doctor told me I can take up to 900mg. 2-3 times a day, but I'm a once a day person.
I remember it taking a few days to really start to kick in and it did seem to work better after I was on it a while.
The generic works just as well as the name brand.
Try taking your maximum allowed dose at night. I think it's really helping me with my insomnia issues. Be sure to check with your doctor to make sure he thinks it's alright.
