Good Sunday, everyone. I usually try to offer support when someone needs help, but today I'm feeling heartsick.
My dear, lovely, 26 yr. old daughter, who also has FMS, is exhibiting classic piriformis syndrome symptoms. She had a round of this in grade school, but it passed quickly. She's had it reoccur off & on in the past, but again, it would go away w/in days. This time, however, she has a job where she sits all day, but b/c of her off & on chronic foot pain she can't just quit & go to a job where she's on her feet all day. I know how bad this can be, all of it, b/c I've had it for years.
I haven't been acting all gloom & doom around her. I've offered practical advice such as soaking in epsom salts baths, TrPt release work w/stretching. (I have the Starlynal & Copeland books, also the Claire Davies TriggerPoint Therapy book.)
She's been taking my advice some of the time, but I think she's hoping it will just go away on its own. I hope it will too, but I've got that icky feeling I get in my cardiac plexus & solar plexus whenever something really bad is going to happen. I wish I knew a doc that was any good, but in this town? We're lucky if they even acknowledge FMS exists. The ones that do, say that FMS & Myofascial Pain syndrome a.k.a. Chronic Myofascial pain are the same thing. I know they are not. The P.T.s in this town, unless we've recently imported someone new, are worthless.
B/c she lives w/us, it's hard to distance myself from her problem. I haven't been nagging or forcing help down her throat, but when she asks 4 advice I gladly give it. This is one of those many times I wish I could just lay my hands on her and heal her.
I guess I'm just asking for support, today.
Love & hugs to all.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Has she gone to a reflexologist? I used to go and want to go again. It's woooonnnnnnddddderful!
Has she been tested for gout? I know gout can be in the rest of the foot and not just the big toe. I get swollen, puffy feet as we as painful nodules. A reflexologist should be able to work all those out and provide some relief.
Keep doin' what you're doin'!
Has your daughter been fitted for good shoes? I'm wanting to get this done too and have that on my next round of questions for my doctor.
I'm reading a little more on this and they suggest a cortisone injection or as a last resort, surgery.
I just started taking Voltoren and it's helped to relieve about 20% of my pain. Not bad. Not a miracle but at least I'm able to have a few pain-free minutes here and there. :)
CarrieinS asked if my daughter has had reflexology--yearh, it hurt more than helped...her feet are very sensitive. She wears custom made orthotics in her shoes. She's been dx'd w/plantar fasciitis, & a word I can't remember for forefoot pain. She's had PT, etc. & has had enough recovery so she can go for walks & stuff like that--but she couldn't be on her feet all day w/out backsliding into chronic pain.
Anyway...my hands are telling me to stop, so thanks again, & love & hugs to all.
