I HAVE BEEN IN PAIN FOR YEARS NOW. I HAVE BENN TO A FEW DOCTORS WHO HAVE KINDA JUST BLOWN IT OFF. I JUST GOT A NEW DOCTOR WHO REFERED ME TO A REUMATOLOGIST AND HE FINALLY DIAGNOSED ME WITH FIBRO ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. IN THE PAST I WAS PRESCRIBED IBUPROPHEN AND NAPROXEN WHICH BOTH GAVE ME STOMACH PAIN AND DIAREAHA BAD. I TOLD MY REUMATOLOGIST THAT AND HE PRESCRIBED ME OXAPROZIN I HAD THE SAME RESULTS. NOW HE HAS GIVEN ME ETODOLAC AND AGAIN SAME SIDE EFFECTS AND NO PAIN RELIEF AT ALL. MY AUNT ALSO HAS FIBRO SHE GOES TO A PAIN MANAGMENT CLINIC AND IS PRESCIBED OXYCODONE FOR HER PAIN. I TRIED ONE AND IT REALLY HELPED ME. I WAS GOING TO ASK MY DOCTOR FOR THAT BUT SHE TOLD ME ALOT OF DOCTORS TREATED HER LIKE SHE WAS A DRUG ADDICT OR JUST TRYING TO GET NARCOTICS WHEN SHE ASKED THATS WHY SHE FINALLY GOT REFERRED TO A PAIN CLINIC. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO I THINK I AM ALLERGIC TO NSAIDS AND THATS ALL MY DOCTOR KEEPS GIVING ME. MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I ASK FOR THIS MEDICINE? DOES ANYONE ELSE TAKE OXYCODONE FOR FIBRO? DOES IT HELP YOU? DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY PAIN MEDS THAT MIGHT HELP WITH FIBRO BESIDES NSAIDS? PLEASE HELP ME I NEED SOME PAIN RELEIF.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
My experience with rheumys has been that they think we should have to learn to live with our fibro pain without any pain meds. I have had better luck with a physiatrist or physical medicine specialist, because they are much more willing in Virginia to give you narcotics if you truly need them. Hugs, Fern
St John's Wort is a good one, but PLEASE RESEARCH it first, it can be dangerous otherwise. Take care, hugs Owlxx
Below are some quotes on chronic pain, brain chemistry and the amino acid, DL-phenylalaine [DPLA] taken from the book Heal With Amino Acids and Nutrients by Billie J. Sahley, Ph.D. C.N.C. and Katherine M. Birkner, C.R.N.A., Ph.D.
Chronic pain is Americas most common, expensive, disabling, and overprescribed disorder. The longer you suffer, the greater the intensity of pain.
There are no magic bullets, no miracle drugs, no overnight cures. If anyone tells you they have a curefor pain, run, don walk awayIf you are offered an array of medication, consider the long-term effects, because drugs treat only the symptoms. Your goal is to treat the sourceyour brainthe master controller that sends signals to every corner of the body! /Remember, whatever the brain tells the body to do, it does! Pain research at John Hopkins University indicates a great deal of chronic pain and depression reflects the patients inability to produce enough of certain brain chemicals. This research points to a new methods of treating pain and depression, without using harmful drugs.
Studies at other major universities have shown the brain does produce many hormone-like chemicals that have a close functional resemblance to morphine. These morphine-like chemicals are called endorphins [endogenous morphine] because they are produced by he body [endogenous] and are similar to morphine.
'Endorphins are not drugs, but a simple nutritional amino acid, phenylalanine, or DLPA. DLPA is not a drug. It does not actually block pain, itself. DLPA works by protecting your own naturally produced endorphins, effectively extending their life spans in the nervous systems. By extending their lifespans, pain relief results. DLPA is a natural healer, and helps the body heal itself..
'DLPA is now being used clinically throughout the U.S. in major pain clinics, for pain and depression. Million of people suffering from pain do so because of stress. Stress energizes pain, pain fuels stress.'
'Most amino acids, themselves, are pain-relievers, especially 5-HTP, a safe, natural way to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is absolutely essential for smooth brain function. If you live with chronic pain, you are deficient in serotonin, and therefore are more sensitive to pain messages from the brain. [pgs 119-121]
Ive been taking DLPA for about 6 weeks now and can honestly say Im in less pain than before I started taking it. This is rather remarkable considering how low the barometric pressure has been for days on end this fall. In previous years, anything below 30.0 meant days of agony as I waited out the never-ending storms backed up across the Pacific ocean. Currently, the pressure is 29.6 which is incredibly low and other than some muscle spasms in my feet, Im not in any noticeable pain. I credit this to giving my brain the things it needs in order to function properly, i.e., not interrupt nonpain stimuli as painful as happens when our neurotransmitters are out of wack.
Were also giving DLPA to our dogs for their arthritis as its safe to use in animals.
