I was thinking about the bad habits that I have & have had. I'm committing today to break some of those bad habits that I still have. I once read somewhere that it takes 21 consecutive days of doing something for it to become a habit. For me, today is going to be day 1. I'm not waiting for New Year's to make my resolution. What are some of the ways you've broken bad habits(if you don't mind sharing)?
Here's how I broke one of mine. I smoked for years & years. Finally one day, I was down to my last cigarette in the pack. I smoked that cigarette. I decided not to stop at the gas station on the way home. I made it through the rest of that evening & the next day, I didn't stop again. I kept convincing myself that I didn't need to stop. I didn't tell my husband at first. I wanted to see if I could do it. Finally after 2 weeks, I told him that I quit. He had quit a couple of months before so he was happy. Now it's been 4 1/2 years.
I believe that I was able to quit because I was ready to quit. If I hadn't really wanted to quit, I wouldn't have lasted this long. I believe that has alot to do w/breaking bad habits. You've got to really want to deep down inside. Hope this makes sense! :}

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Ok, I have given up "a few" bad habits,
1. Anorexia, age 13-19
2. Dating men in the MOB. 19-23. He died, got pushed off a bridge in New Haven.
3. Marrying mentally abusive men, 1986-1991. Divorced his mean ass and never looked back. Lol
4. Quit drinking after almost dying from alcoholism, It took me 10 years to almost buy the farm on the installment plan, one bottle of wine a time. 1991-2002.
5. Quit smoking ciggarettes. Kicked the habit to ward off oncoming COPD. 2006. Miss them still.
6. Trying to get off Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. But I love it, famous last words.
My motto: Never Quit Quitting things that are bad for you.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, again. One of my Fathers sayings.
Hugs, Keleee :)
