Am seeing a doc today. Right now I am on TRamadol 50mgs twice a day. ALong with 1mg of ativan twicw a day. Need something for breakthrough pain. Have on my own my upping tramamdol but not working. Any suggestions on what I should aske for. Don't want Oxycontin, don't like it. Anyone use the patches (fentanyl) for break through? Or should I use the patches everyday and them tramadol for break through? Have tried every drug I can think of though maybe you guys would have some suggestions on a cocktail.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Second... The Fentanyl patches are for basic, long term pain relief which is why they're switched every couple of days. I use the Fent. patches and have to switch every 2 days.
Third... Yes, use the other pain med for your breakthrough pain. It'll be faster acting than the patches (because they are a continous release method of delivery).
I was on Oxycontin before the patches and had some ugly side effects, so when I was switched to the patches and Roxicontin (for breakthrough pain), I was relieved...it worked much nicer.
Sometimes the percocet helps the flares, sometimes it doesnt. My Ms Contin was just upped. I don't have any side affects and it really is helping.
