Good morning! I didn't so much sleep as collapse. (Ah, fibro.) My whiplash pain seized up again. Rats! That said, they predict snow here, and the fun begins! Everything cancelled! Everyone panicking! No bread or milk at the store! (Seriously, do they make French toast or something?) And... not a flake. Nor a raindrop. Yet, anyway. But the animals aren't telling me to worry, so I'm not worried. Till my favorite little indicating species tell me it'll be bad, I don't worry. Old habit, but it works.
If you think wildfires are no big deal... The ones in Australia may continue for at least 3-5 months, depending upon the source. The fires started in Septempber 2019. Basically, wilfires burning long enough for a human to gestate from embryo to birth. Recovery... Well, I pray healing for Australia, is all Iv'e got.
Today in 1896, the Fannie Farmer Cookbook was published. It ruined American cooking for about a century. Boiled to death? Check. Sugary? Check. Ridiculously awful at times? Check. I've seeen a facsimilie of the first edition. Let's just say... No. No no no. No. And did I mention "no"? Makes Betty Crocker look like haute cuisine, and that's the modern Betty with the microwave-everything version... OK, sorry, I know, I know! Fannie Farmer is iconic! But so's a swastika, doesn't make it all good... Sorry. I just... Ugh.
Why did they start killing food? Well, ti was the hygeine craze. It must be pickled, boiled, etc., or it's not "safe". Mind you, the real reasons for sickness are much the same as today ---- wash your hands, people! rinse yoru food before cooking! --- but... Yeah. Well. Anyway. Ahem. Sorry.
In 1929, today marked the debut of "Buck Rogers 2429 AD", which was later changed to "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century". And that's about th eonly thing not recently rebooted, so I expect we'll need to duck the next Buck any day now ;-P
And today in 1927, in Hinckley, Illinois, the Harlem Globetrotters (basketball exhibition team) first played:-)
I had a horrifying PTSD nightmare last night, and screamed awake, so I'm off to ice/heat my neck (I thrashed that whiplash into irritation, I admit) and then watch the cats watch the squirrels. Dixie, btw, is part Maine Coon. She hasn't got the fluff, but she has the bone structure. Paws are huge. So when she bats the window? Oh, the squirrels know it! (BTW, the vet gave that guess on her ancestry. With her paws, I gotta agree. Dahlia has tiny paws by comparison, and not just b/c she's smaller overall!)
Tuesday blessing to each of you, and stay safe:-)
OK, well, maybe not therapeutic, but we can dream? Good morning. Not much sleep last night. Frankly, I hate hormones. Nuff said, the ladies all understand what that's about.***THe Spanish word for sister is the only one that isn't related to the old Indo-European root word in all the Latin or even Germanic and Slavic languages. Don't believe me? Check it out. "Hermana" is from old Latin for...
