Yesterday's debate was AWESOME thanks to all who participated. We were able to discuss religious beliefs and differences without being defensive or insulted , it was wonderful to gain a close knowledge of so many , and see that we could all be so accepting of each other.
During the discussion , I won the dubious award of picking a new topic for today , and wouldn't you know it..I slept until 8am...that almost never happens.!! So since it is supposed to be taboo to discuss religion or politics...and we did so well yesterday...I would like to pose the question of:
Do you agree with the current war in Iraq?
Here is my perspective....NO...I hold no ill feelings toward the soldiers who are there doing the job they have trained for. I have the highest level of respect I can muster for their dedication and sacrifice. I am an ardent patriot ,and some what of a history buff. My family has had someone participate in every battle/conflict this country has ever been in , even before it was a country. In my father's lineage I have found someone who was involved in the Holy Crusades, that took place during the middle ages....and if you remeber your history lesseons , many of the battles taking place today were on the same lands and over the same differences. What we are involved now will not be resolved by forcing democracy down the throats of people who have never known it and who have been told their entire lives that it and us , are evil. I'm not saying that peace is impossible to achieve, but 700 yrs of conflict in this area has shown what a difficult task is before us.
My personal feeling is this....once Hussein was captured ...we should have left. We need those precious men and women here to protect us.We have become increasingly more vulnerable since the attacks on 9/11...and what will happen if we are invaded and so many of our troops are scattered world wide????
What do you think?????

Hey Hens, Well I took a vote between my dh and two youngest boys to see if they wanted me to cook a Christmas dinner. All three voted yes so looks like I am cooking. Honestly I am not looking forward to it. I don't know that I'm up to it. But I will try for them. So on the menu is:Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, green beans, baked corn cassarole, sweet potato cassarole, home...

Hi, sure has been a long time. How are you girls doing. I've been thinking a lot about the Hen House the last few days and decided to pop on and see who was here....if anyone after all this time. Lol. I'm not doing much. Still crafting. Still fighting fibro but I think I'm actually doing a little better these days. How was your Thanksgiving? Christmas is lurking.....who has their shopping done? I...
We should not be there, we never should have gone there, we should get out of there yesterday.
As for the theory that W is just finishing a job that H did not finish, I don't think it was that. H went into Desert Storm to get Iraq out of Kuwait. That was his stated mission. He had no mandate to continue to hunt down Saddam, and he did not have the support of the UN or our allies to hunt Saddam, so he could not do it. H, on the other hand, I believe, wanted to flex his muscles in the Persian Gulf area and Iraq was the weakest country to attack at the time. Saddam was robbing the citizens blind and killing his own people in massive numbers, so going after him would make W look like a good guy. The excuse touted about some sort of connection between Saddam and Al Quada WAS completely false, However, because of our intervention in Iraq, there is now a presence of Al Quada in Iraq.
Needless to say, the man pisses me off entirely.
I sincerely wish that he would have an affair with one of the white house aids, so that he could be impeached, because no matter how much he has screwed up in every other area, we still have another year of him and our soldiers are going to continue to die in record numbers.
My views are that we should NEVER have gone there in the first place but now that we have we have to finish the job. Cannot let this be another Vietnam. This one has to have some closure. Not sure how to achieve that...but personally I don't think pulling out at this point is it. There needs to be a solid plan and withdrawal of troops little by little. (I sound like a politician don't I? UGH!) It is just that now that we are there I don't think we can just run away.... it is like building a house for the homeless.... you can build solid walls and put in the best furniture there is but if you don't put on a roof what good is that house? Now that we have knocked them down we have to get them to a place where they can care for themselves....
This was a great topic.....
I do not believe it would be a show of cowardice for us to pull out completey. I think it would be a show of respect of lives for us to leave. But I do not agree with the mind-set of how we usually leave a conflict...typically we leave so much behind, machinery and weapons. I for one and sick and tired of GW wasting my money...arghhhhh...I get so riled up about this man that it is not healthy.
It is not a dis-honor to accpet the fact that we have made a mistake and the men and women who have done their jobs there will be revered by family and country for their sacrifices for all time.
MY personal view is, we should have never went after Saddam! Wasn't it Bin Laden who attacked us on 9-11???
I agree with whoever said we should have invaded Afgahanistan to capture or KILL Bin Laden. He's a loaded time bomb waiting to go off again!
I have 2 boys, one is 24 and the other will be 18, soon. I fear a re-instatement of the draft. I know, THEY say thats not an option right now, but I don't want my boys going over there and risking their lives for what??? I don't even know!
I think GWB is a spoiled ass, who just wants to play army and world leader and to hell with our Soldiers. I pray everyday for them to COME HOME SAFE! I have had several friends in the Air Force, older gentelman of rank, who were sent over there, but luckily came back. One friend was working for a security company over there and the convoy he was in was ambushed. Several men died. That was it for him. He broke his contract and came home! He said it was a mess over there, and he didn't think it would ever get better. We need to pull our troops out NOW, and let them sort it out for themselves now. Saddam is dead. Let them rebuild there own country, and let the next president put some of that money back into THIS country!! We have people starving andliving on the streets here, too. Let's help THEM!
I'm sorry this sounds angry, but this subject just burns my ass!
I love you all, and I welcome everyones opinion, mine is just mine. An opinion...
