Is there anyone who has taken narcotics for pain relief in the past but are now using a different pain treatment? What is it and is it effective? I'm currently taking percocet--but after a stint of withdrawal when I ran out earlier than expected and there was a mix up with my next script--I experienced 12 days of terrible withdrawal symptoms. I've been on them so long (10 years--about 3-4 per day of 5/325) that I'm afraid I won't even be able to function without them. Any thoughts or advice would be really welcome.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Is there a reason you have this worry? Are they not working as well for you? Are you considering going off them? Or are you afraid you will run out again before refill time? It sounds like you might need a higher dose, which I would assume is why you ran out ahead of schedule. If this is the case, which naturally occurs with many drugs like this, you need to ask your dr. to change the dosage. You should never discontinue a drug (even unintentionally as in this case), especially of this kind, without a dr. weaning you off ever so gradually. As you found out, your body will go through severe withdrawls. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions that I might be able to help you with.
I honestly don't think it's going to work. I know people who have tried to go narcotic free, and they always have to go back, because the fibro pain is just too much to bear.
My suggestion is the same; try to get your dose upped. 5mg. of percocet, is NOTHING! See if your doc will give you at MINIMUM 10mgs. 4x a day. Even that isn't very strong, but stronger than what you are on.
