Well, we had quite the adventure. Yes, cats.
There's a new cat in the "hood". And, yes, it showed up at my house. Why wouldn't it?!
It's half-grown, black, and has all the rest of the "gang" on high alert. WHO ARE YOU! WHYA RE YOU HERE! OMG, it's like some weird art film, cats just appearing and scanning for the Invader, then disappearing, and another cat shows up... Hubby tried to talk to the kitty but it bailed. My turn next, as soon as Dahlia gets off me. (No time soon, in other words.)
The derivation of the word "sombrero" is the Spanish word for "shade", appropriately enough. (Spanish for shade is "sombra", btw. Whic you also didn't need to know.)
Today in 1676 a conflict between Europeans and indigenous Americans came to a close when the leader of the American natives was killed. He was nickanemed "King Philip", and thus the war was known as "King Philip's War". The man known as "Philip" was son of a chief who was on good terms with the Mayflower crowd, but obvs, that didn't last. This was the last big push to get Euroepans out of New England, by the natives. two hundred years later, stillll fighting white people (1876 being Custer's Last Stand).
In 1964, Mickey Mantle just had to chalk up another one for the books by hitting a home run from *each* side of the plate --- one from left, one from right. B/c, y'know, why just hit two homers if you can show off your awesome switch hitterness in a game? And for those who don't know sports, "switch hitter" in baseball means someone who can bat with left or right side "dominant". Or, in other terms, can hit while standing on the left side of the plate or the right side of the plate.
And today in 2000, the Russian submarine Kursk went down and all hands were lost. A chemical booboo in a missile tube caused an explosion. Ultimately, it taught everyone what we all knew if we took college chemistry: high-test hyrogen peroxide does not mix kindly with petroleum products used as missile fuel. And if they do interact in, say, a torpedo tube? Torpedo go boom! And buh-bye to your hull integrity. Incompetence, shortcuts that shouldn't be taken, and really crappy maintenance were the reason for the big boom, of course. If the torpedo tube door had been shut and sealed properly, any malfunctioning torpedo or explosion within the tube *should* have gone out the tube into the sea.Instead, teh torpedo tube door ended up imbedded in the interior bulkhead almost *40* feet away from teh tube. Russia blamed NATO, the media, and eventually the crew, but in th eend, let's face it: the cluster-f*** wasn't as bad as it could have been. THe nuclear reactor on the sub was shut down properly by someone between the explosion and the eventual death of the last crew member.
May you have a good day:-)
I went to get more trigger point injections in my neck and shoulders. The doctor did more this time than he did last time. After the injections, My arms shoulders and neck have been sore for days, which is normal. But the problem is that I think the shots aggravated the peripheral neuropathy that I have in my arms and hands. Iimmediately after the shots the neuropathy, the pain, the numbness,...
Good morning! And it's been morning for me for a while. Alas.Four hours of sleep. Down at midnight (finally! the muscle relaxant kicked in and my back unkinked!)... and up when it wore off. Four hours. Ping! I see the doc again ASAP, but ASAP means "stand by for his phone call and run out door". Oh boy... As it's the weekend, I predict I will need another round of scar-scanning and so forth....
