I am sure you know that methadone is used to detox individuals from opiates.... It is of course an opiate as well as I am sure you know.

Now.... as far as using them together, I know that people do however I am no doctor or pharmacist....I am a substance abuse counselor)

First, how many mgs of methadone are you on? The reason i ask is b/c there is something called a "blockade effect" when using these drugs together.

This term is used when referring to an individual getting a "high." If the right amount of methadone is used it can often prevent an individual from getting "high" from other opiates.

I am sure I have now irritated you as your not trying to get "high"..... I know that, but I think it is a safe assumption to believe that it works the same way when talking about oxy's "effectiveness" on pain, when mixed with Methadone.

Long story short..... I am assuming methadone could decrease oxy's effectiveness on your pain.
Please forgive me for my analogy, I work with addicts and it is the easiest way for me to explain these drugs together.

Why would you want to start taking something again that didn't work and which you hated? Strongly object to being put on that. Since it will be 2 weeks before he comes back, I'd check with the pharmacy too.

In the meantime, find other ways of dealing with the pain...hot tub, massage and physiotherapy, trigger point massage, hot rocks therapy, reflexology etc.

Just remember that the drugs and the detox might actually be causing you MORE pain than you would be if you weren't on them or detoxing. It's still pretty recent to tell, so don't stop trying any and all alternatives. We are so very proud of you and cheering you on.

I really hope you can channel your energy to writing some letters explaining what those past doctors did to you and how it shouldn't happen to someone else.

I was on 10 mg. methadone 4x day and oxycodone for breakthru pain for 4 years. Was prescribed by a pain clinic. I never had any problems. When using methadone for detoxing from opiates it is in much larger doses and then makes the opiates ineffective. It worked very well for me the way it was prescribed.

FIREFLY9 YES YOU CAN MIX, I GO BACK AND FOURTH WITH THE B/T MEDS I SWITCH BACK AND FORTH FROM VICODIN TO OXYCODONE KNOWN AS PERCOCET. SO YES ITS AN OK THING I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE AS LONG AS ITS THE SHORT ACTING ONE AND NOT OXYCONTIN WHICH FROM WHAT I AM TOLD IS THE LA ONE.

A Pain Clinic put me on low dose Methadone as it is a pain killer too, & it made me sweat buckets more than Hot Flashes, so they took me off it as excessive sweating is a side effect of Methadone!!!!!

I too am in recovery...for ME, my pain actually seemed worse after being on methadone and/or any other opiates for an extended time, these meds can make pain worse (rebound pain)...they clearly made me worse the longer i was on them...i suffered greatly for 6 months even after i stopped taking methadone and etc...
P.A.W.S is a huge factor when it comes to getting off any type of opiate, especially methadone...i know...this isnt an addiction forum, but PAWS from opiod dependence or addiction was and still is HUGE factor for me and having fibromyalgia and my pain level...just thought i would share this for anyone suffering from worsened pain from opiates...from my own personal experience these pain meds should only be used for short term or for flares...just MY opinion though, as this is a personal choice.

Have debated coming back to this and after finding Kelee spreading her parinoia elsewhere I decided what the hell why not.
Thanks Kelee for protecting us all from the big bad druggie on the other side of the continent but last time I looked noone had offered you the job as the narc police. Seriously I am not trying to be offensive (I know I am tho) who the hell do you actually think you are in all this. V is having a rough time of it and is in need of help. Who are we to sit in judgment? I think you have gone over the top a tad here with the not giving out our personal info bit I mean hell if I remember from my using days correctly the only thing I was ever after was an easy score and that score usually wasnt gonna happen 700 miles away from where I was standing.

Not a Christian by any shape of the word but smart enough to know not to sit in judgment of one especially when I have been right where she is at least once in my life.

Giving out personal info is never good but to insinuate that if someone does give it out to V that she is going to come after them for their drugs LMFAO thats so wrong on more than one level.


Now before I get slammed by you or your friends perhaps you would like to admit that not only did you post this crap here but in another post also where it had no business. I am not perfect far from it but I will be dammed I am gonna let another human being get slammed like this and noone sticks up for her.
