I have been dealing with fms for a little over 6 months now. I am not currently taking any meds., dut to the fact that I've tried so many and none seem to work. I've decided to try the all natural approach, cleansing, and am currently taking large doses of vitamins/supplements and eating mostly organic food. I'm just wondering if the symptoms ever lessen over time. Does fms eventually improve? Or do I have to expect to be in severe pain the rest of my life. I would appreciate any imput or advice. Thanks so much in advance. Jennie64

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...

Personally, when I was diagnosed, my doctor told me that if I didn't lose weight I would *really* regret it after I turned 30, and he was *SO* right! 7 years later, I'm still heavy, and my symptoms have been getting worse since I turned 30.
Now, at that same time, he told me that FM had been known to disappear as mysteriously as it appeared in some people, and so it was not necessarily a life sentence. So far, most of the people I have met that claim this are also trying to sell me something. I'm not saying everyone, just most of them.
He also said that FM would only have as important a role in my life as I gave it. The more attention I gave it, the more I would be affected by it. I believe there is some truth to this. When we are happy and everything is going well, our FM symptoms are much better than when we are stressed out and worried. It makes sense that the more we stress about our symptoms, and dwell on them, the worse they will get, because stress makes us worse.
Now, before the lynch mob lands on my front door...
I do not believe that mere positive thinking can stop a flare. I also believe that no matter how positive you are, you will still have bad days (and bad weeks and bad months and so on). I'm just saying that you will have more bad days the more stressed out you are. If all you have to be stressed out by in life is your FM, do not let it stress you out, and you will feel tons better. If your life kinda sucks outside of FM, FM is just going to make it that much harder for you.
For example, up until last month, I was working jobs where I liked what I did. My FM only started to interfere when the environment started to stress me out (apart from one time period where other medications caused me anxiety problems, which caused flares). As long as I was happy with what I was doing, I got by. Right now, I'm starting a temp job that's boring. But I like the people, and I'm getting more comfortable. I'm hoping this will even out to me feeling better this week than last week. Unless I find another permanent job that I like as much as my previous jobs, the next couple of years are going to be horrible for me because I will be unhappy. Some day I hope to be able to afford to cut down on working significantly, and stay home and do things I truly enjoy... like writing and scrapbooking and crafting and keeping my house clean and cooking (and maybe I'd even have a kidlet or two, though I think they count more as stress than relaxation). I expect when I'm merely puttering around the house I'll feel great!
So, it all depends on all the different variables in your life. The more positive you can stick into it, the better you'll be. This is also why some anti-depressants work so well. Just don't give up!! The good life is out there, we've just got to find our way to it!
