Hi,
I am in recovery for alcohol but have never done drugs myself except experimentally when young.
I went over to visit a friend last week and found him in a bad state. My first thought was to call 911 but he forbid me to. He said he was just tired. This friend OD'd 4 times in the past on Methadone but has been clean for over a year. he is a recovering heroin addict but is not on any medication.
This is what I saw visually as best as I can describe. He was slurring his speech. His eyes kept rolling up into his head so all you could see were the white part. He kept nodding his head up and down and talking and then stopping and passing out sitting up. When he stood up he lost his balance slightly and his teeth fell out twice onto the floor. He did not smell like alcohol or pot. He was not making much sense at times.
I gave up trying to get him to go to the ER. I came home and prayed for him. I saw him today in church and he has small red marks all over his forehead, neck and face. He has also lost more weight and is getting too thin. I asked him how he was doing and he said he was tired.
My question is this. Was my friend ODing on drugs?
I don't know what to look for but what I saw really scared me. Especially his eyes rolling up in his head.
I know what tired people and drunk people look like but this was different. Should I check in on him and make sure he is ok or am I worrying over nothing?
Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Keleee :)

Hi everyone, I just want to vent. One Saturday two to three weeks ago, I helped Mom pruned her bougainvillea, handwashed her clothes, chopping/frying dinner, scrubbed the tiles in three bathrooms, mopped the tiles, vacumn the floor, typed 5000 words for my teacher..... Twenty four hours later, I could not lift my entire right arm as it was red and swollen. My right hand became so swollen that I...

If this is not drug related, he is probably pretty sick, and it sounds like it would be either neurological or mental. Alot of what you were describing could be depressive side of being bi-polar. The spots and the being tired alot, and him being "normal" when you saw him the other day would lead me to think he is having something wrong neurologically. Regardless, somewhere along the line he is going the need some medical intervention.
He is blessed to have you as a friend.
Blessings,
Jan
My mom's ex-border is a practicing alcoholic. He fell down 5 stairs, face/head first and cracked his head on the wall. I called 911. He was embarassed and said he didn't need them called. The paramedics were great and have to respond to EVERY call, and once inside will ask the person if they need more assistance. If they refuse, they can at least assess the person and see what else is going on.
It sounds like he's going to need a great friend like you!
Thanks again for your thoughtful responses, I'll let you know how it goes.
Hugs, Keleee :)

BAD AS COULD BE FALLING DOWN DRUNK OR SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!
Update-
I talked to my friend today. It's like a miracle! He is going to the doctors tommorrow and then the pain clinic and get off of the drugs. He asked me to go with him. It is like God just took and led him to do the next right thing. Our God is so kind and merciful to help out this man and save him from a certain death.
The best part is that he wants to get help and is willing to go take the steps to get off of the drugs.
He said it started when he threw out his back and his Cyatic nerve acted up. He got some Perks at his GP but they didn't work so he went to the pain clinic. They gave him Methadone and shots which fixed his back pain but he got hooked back on Methadone. Before he knew it he was buying it on the street and selling the Perks to supplement his script. Then it still wasn't enough so he took Heroin the night I stopped by. He realized he was in over his head and was trying to stop but needed a push.
I told him he scared me half to death but I am very pleased he wants to go get help.
Thanks for the suggestions on how to help him.
Keleee :)
