Well, farewell to new windows against winter. The old rattlers have to stay. Heating unit stuff must be fixed. In fact, it's being fixed as I type. NOisily. Messily. And so on. There goes two grand. *sigh* But I can nurse this sucker along for a few more years so we can save for a new unit, which will be about $10K for this house. Stupid house. It's very enviro-friendly in many ways, but the way the HVAC was set up originally (in 1968)? Not so much. Gah.
I should be in Europe eating a croissant right now, y'know? Oh well. Reality. It sucks like a black hole sometimes.
So it's National Recovery Month according to Google. Do we have a day or week or month that isn't "something something"?
Turns out, today is both National Guacamole Day (:?!) and National School Backpack Awareness Day (?!?!) Not sure which of those is more what-the-whatta for me. School backpacks need awareness?
But Happy Independence Day to Mexico!
Ah, turns out children suffer pain if they don't wear a backpack properly or if it's over-full. Which is, y'know, sorta a no-brainer, but then again... A lot of parents don't realize how heavy a kid's backpack gets. I do, simply b/c local kids walking by on their way home from school are often using wheeled carry-on luggage as an alternative!
TOday is Pchum Ben in Cambodia, a Buddhist holiday lasting a touch over two weeks, during which merit is generated for the souls of the departed, and souls may end up in purgatory if their karma hasn't been helped along by hepful relatives on the mortal plane, or so is my admittedly rotten understanding of it. All I can really say is, people make offerings and pray a lot to help ancestors have a great afterlife, so the ancestors don't haunt them or curse them.
September also gives us these "observances":
intergeneration (go hug a person not in your age group, essentially)
international update-your-resume! month (no joke)
national blodo cancer awareness month (blood cancer: it's bad)
blueberry popsicle (yes, this is blueberry popsicle month!)
Recovery (from reading the list, joke) ---- actually, recovery from substance abuse and mental trauma, which is weirdly linked, b/c you can have one without the other, but there we are.
That's a lot for one month to handle.
I vote we make the rest of September "No more BS month". Any takers?
Hugs! And now to air my house, b/c goldang that's nasty stuff they use.... I gotta check the cats.
how do you guys deal with the fear of being abandoned due to past events? been to therapy for years but going over the past over and over and over again just brings out the fear more..
Hi Ladies, I'd like to ask you all how to treat arthralgia in the hands. As you know, I have systemic lupus but instead of working in moderation, I've spent a whole week sitting at the computer 12 hours a day, typing away to catch up to the classes and assessments I've missed whilst taking care of my Mom during her convalescence in hospital after heart surgery. So this morning, my fingers are...
