Good Monday! There, I said it, now shall it be!
Depressing realization: I halved my one pain med, and it made no difference. *sigh* OK, well, at least I know. Or, if it makes a difference, not enough to count on that 1-10 scale of pain. i'm still hovering around the usual daily 6-7 if I dare do things like, y'know, clean and stuff.
Ever wonder about things?
Here is what I wonder:
1. Why the UK currency system remained so baffling for so long, and still baffles me. (Sorry, British friends, but wth?) Farthings. Groats. Pence. Shillings. And that leaves out a bunch from the era before it was "simplified" to pounds-shillings-etc. I was reading ---- I know, dangerous habit ;-) ----- and wondered, "What the heck IS a farthing?" Five websites and a consultation with two books later, I realized it's a really really tiny bit of a British pound, and let's leave it at that.
2. This got me going b/c I found out Jane Austen, author, was going to be on the ten-pound note (bill) and I thought that was cool. adn then I found out there *was no ten-pound note* (or tenner, as my hubby's UK cousins say) between 1944 and 1963. Other figures on tenners in history, besides the current queen? Charles Darwin and Florence Nightingale.
And today in 1204, the Fourth Crusade on its way to win back the Holy Land decided to stop off in modern Istanbul (then Constantinople) and sack *that* instead. Not a great choice, let's leave it at that.
In 1811, the first colonists arrived in modern Washington State at the location known as "Cape Disappointment". Wow. Right up there with Virginia's "Great Dismal Swamp" to give you what the first impressions were!
Ten years to the day after the death of POTUS Franklin D Roosevelt in 1945, the Salk polio vaccine was annoucned to be safe and effective. FDR had polio as an adult. Nice little history bookend there.
And by adding dried orange peel and ginger, I managed to hide the fact I cut 2/3 of the sugar out of a cupcake recipe, with no sugar substitutes used. :-) Hubby has no idea. MWahahahahah!
Well, in th eUS it is Mothers Day tomorrow/today (Sunday). And here we are. Mothers and not-mothers and maybe-mothes..... but also Kids With Moms. What is YOUR perfect Mother's Day in 2021? Mine would be a hot rock massage and then tropical drinks on a beach.B/c I'm pretty sure all moms feels this way at some point: And then there's these kidsMay we all be kind to our mothers, remember our...
Wow, I am doing... well, rotten, really, LOL.Weather change. Stress. PTSD stuff. I am terrified to see Mom this Sunday for Mothers Day. I just don't want to see her. I don't want to see that she needs rescue, and have to walk away from it. I don't want to see her treat us badly for doing better by her than she did by *her* mother. And now our next-door is bitching at Hubby about somethign we do,...
