I have a question, I have been sent to pain dr. and I had Facet injections; which were horrible anyway.. I have had an MRI & nerve conduction test to prove that I have back issues. I just need some medicine to help with the pain. My Rheumy "doesn't prescribe narcotics for FIbro Patients" My GP doesn't prescribe for patients. My Pain Dr. doesn't prescribe narcotics for Fibro Patients. So who does? How do I get any relief? We have this "unknown illness" that no one will help. I have an apt with my Pain Dr. tommorrow, Do I say, hey I have documentated back problems and nerve problems do you rx for that?

So I guess the thing is--quality of life hits home with Dr.'s. Lately though there have been all these articles about narcotics not working for FMS patients because there are not enough receptors for patients with FMS to have any real pain relief benefit from the opiod. I disagree--but this has set new standards for the treatment of FMS. I will be moving to the UK in the next year and they recently issued guidelines for all GP's to follow when treating FMS and it specifically says to stay away from narcotic medication. I hope this helps!
I also feel that we should make our voices heard by as many organizations as possible. The National Fibromyalgia Association may be a good place to start. They have a web site and community organizations that conduct awareness activities and promote research.
Good luck in your search.
