Aprox. 5 years ago I developed swollen, painful feet for about 2 weeks, after a long trip in the car. The pain spread up my body, one joint section at a time. First my knees, then hips, arms, and ended with a 3 week long major headache that sent me to the doctor and then to a rheumatologist.
I'll try to explain the pain I was feeling. I'd wake up one morning with a painful wrist, for instance. It would hurt so bad I couldn't move it. The next day it would be perfectly fine but my shoulder would be frozen in place and be very painful. I couldn't even lift my arms. It went on like this for a few weeks. One day pain, the next fine.
The doctor diagnosed me with Fibrymyalgia. She did the pressure point test and I was amazed at how some of them hurt. She did $1200 worth of lab work to "rule out" other things and gave me a month long supply of an antibiotic "just in case".
At the time I had restless leg syndrome so bad that the thought of sleeping was depressing. My arms even jumped alot. She perscribed neurontin.
The strange thing is, these symptoms went away and now I'm left with twitching muscles in the back and front of my shoulders, all around tiredness, doesn't matter how much sleep I get, and now a new symptom, burning sensations in my legs. It just heats up for a few seconds and goes away. My son's father died of Lou Gherig's Disease so the twitching muscles is concerning me a bit but I'm trying to not let my imagination run wild.
I almost always have headache. I do have alot of stress in my life and I blame it on that most of the time. I had a bout of severe migraines last year and this year they come in the form of visual disturbances then a mild headache. I take 1/2 of a xanax and it goes away quickly.
Does this sound like what you all deal with? I haven't found much information on Fibromyalgia that seems to fit my problems. There's alot of sites on it, but they all seem to copy one another.
Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It took some time, but I did find a doctor that listened and found by blood tests and bone age studies that I did have Fibro.Unfortunately, the meds never helped the pain.
My fibro hits on all of the pressure points, I feel like the ole song.. Head Shoulders Knees and Toes.. I can even throw in a chorus of Hips, elbows, fingers and neck!
Recently I have undergone a more updated type of test, called Dexa Scan.. this is a great way for doctors to determine if there are other problems with the joints and bones. I was just diagnosed with Osteoporosis.
We have to look at all aspects of what can be wrong with us. Some medical problems, I fear, develope into something else down the road.
Take care and be aggressive in getting your answers.
The buring in your legs I also have. I have nerve damage in them. You might want to have a nerve conductivity test run and see if that can pinpoint the problem. I am on Lamictal for that and it does help alot.

Thanks
The thing is I don't have insurance so I don't visit the doctor much.
After reading what you all go through and how bad it is, I feel for you all. I guess I'm fortunate to not have this affect my life in the way it does you. I don't mean to rub that in, honestly, that's just the way it's been and the reason why I didn't think I fit into the fibro catagory, for the longest time.
Every time I read about fibromyalgia, I hear how bad it can be and I think how it's only been like that for me a few times when it acted up. I mean, I have daily stiffness, headaches and minor things, but for the most part, it hasn't been debilitating.
It also makes me worry about what's to come so I guess I need to read up more and just take it one day at a time.
I thank all of you so much for being here to help me. I can read all the sites I want but to actually speak to people who are living it, makes all the difference in the world. You are the true "experts"!
Thanks!
Fibro symptoms do not include swelling.
Fibro pain is muscle pain.,.. your primary pain seems to be joint pain from what you are saying..
I think I would get another opinion..what were the antibiotics for.?.I never heard of them prescribed"just in case" ..IT really sounds like she wasnt sure what she was doing.

The antibiotic was doxicycline (spelling?) and she wanted to make sure I didn't have a bacterial infection, if memory serves me correctly. It was a 30 day supply. She did labs that included lupus, but I can't remember anything else. I have the results somewhere in a file. Everything was normal.
My son has been sick for a while now and they can't figure out what's wrong and just last weekend the ER gave him a 10 day supply of the same drug for the same reason.
The swelling started when we were traveling back from WV. I guess from not moving my legs they started to swell in the truck, and stayed that way for a couple weeks. It hurt to take each step.
Going to the doctor for me is not an option. I am currently unemployed. And that $1200 worth of lab work I said I had? I had to pay OUT OF POCKET! I had a 6 month plan with Blue Cross and they considered it a "pre-existing" conditon! It took years to pay that off.
