In recent months I have been to the family doctor several times with abdominal pain, lumps easily felt by the hand and a plethora of problems with my menstrual cycle.
Each and every time the family doctor dismissed me and my symptoms stating I need to get used to pain due to my having fibromyalgia. In addition he said if I would go to church I would have support system and could cope better with these things. Turn it over to god he says. In fact he said I need god more than a doctor. ( by the way I do attend church and I am quite active in my church community-even a leader of many groups and classes)
Well, things got so bad I finally was granted an appointment with another doctor who was willing to work with me and not dismiss me.
After an ultrasound and Cat scan I have been diagnosed with 3 tumors and an umbilical hernia. 2 of the tumors are the size of grapefruits and the 3rd tumor is the size of a volleyball.
I am frustrated and even furious with that first family doctor. Especially since these are typically slow growing tumors and could have been taken care of before it go to this point.
He never once palpitated my abdomen or offered to perform tests or even a gyn exam even when i asked him to do so. He automatically assumed I was being overly dramatic and got on his soap box about xtianity, passing judgment on me.
Now my days are filled with extreme pain beyond the fibromyalgia... these tumors are pushing so hard on other organs it is affecting other areas of my systems such as urinary and digestive.
my life is miserable and my activity is near non-existent as i wait for the gyn to schedule and perform the surgery.
All of this isdue to a doctor who heard I had fibromyalgia and automatically dismissed me and my symptoms.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
A doctors oath is to "do no harm"
Your doctor did you harm by ignoring your symptoms.
I would first contact him by lieu of letter and inform him of your dx from the new dr. Then I would follow that up by contacting the Medical Board and reporting the situation. This is unforgivable.
I assume that he already knew that you were very involved with your church to suggest such things to you. But considering that we also have that thing call "Modern Medicine" and intelligence, we can add this techniques with prayer.
I wish you well with your upcoming surgery. I can only imagine that you will feel greatly improved after these tumors are removed.
But a doctor that dismiss your health issues and tells you to pray to God. I would get a copy of your records and consult with a lawyer.
After reading some of the horror stories on here I guess I should be glad I had cancer first because there is no doctor that sees me that will push my symptoms under the fibro rug. They don't want to take any chances that my cancer might come back and they missed it.
I hope your knew doctor is alot better and every thing goes well with your surgery and you can begin to feel better.
Hugs and Prayers
A letter to the doctor and medical board is an excellent idea and i will be following up with that action.
Unfrtunately I am not the onl one in this area with complaints f this horses a## since my correct diagnosis I have learned that there are more cases representing his negligence of patients.
My mother-in-laws friend has come forward with a complaint of this doctor--He was told there was nothing wrong with him and his correct dx is liver cancer.
And an uncle has come forward to say this doctor dx him with arthritis in his shoulder and to get used to the pain when in fact his rotators cuff was torn and needed sx.
This area is very small and he was basically one of the only doctors close by and all of us have traveled outside of the area for these correct dx.
I have never been one to lie law suits or litigation of any kind but I believe since I am not the only one he has affected that I will now speak up and do something about it.
Sorry....climbing off my soap box. One of my big pet peeves.....
You are right when you say the BS got to stop...
I won't mention my experience with non-believing doctors because it is to painful.
The internet is a very effective tool these days to alert others about these doctors. I believe more effective than a lawsuit which could take years with little results.
Good luck with the surgery and I'm so sorry you are living this miserable life.
That just makes my blood boil!!!!
Hope you get your surgery soon. Call and bug them a little. I couldn't believe how long it took to get my radical hyst, scheduled. I had cancer and you know how they say get right in as soon as you have a suspicious symptom. It tooks months. I started in Sept abd first had to have a cone something or other biopsy of the cervix. Since the cancer cells had spread beyond the cone chunk they removed, I need the full surgery. Cone sugery middle of Jan and the hyst not till April 25. (and that was with me calling every few days) Thank God it was a slow growing cancer. So don't let them fiddle around.
Good luck and give us an update. Hugs, sue
Please do as WhtNyt and Debbie said and fast. I know your in pain and need those tumors out but that man needs to be stopped in his tracks, he could kill someone or probably already has!!!
I wish you well, please keep us posted...V
in 1998 I started seeing Dr.s for Extreme Leg Pain, I could NOT walk up 3 Steps...and My Muscles were on FIRE...I was Young, Looked healthy, about 5 pounds UNDERWEIGHT...so they searched no further, I went from Riding my Bike 20 Miles to not being able to Go around the damn BLOCK !!
I Suffered...for 6 damn YEARS !! I suffered...Finally...FINALLY I had a Young Dr. that Tho STARTED to tell me the Same Old BS...Lose some Weight !! {By this time I was 30 pounds Overweight}...I sat a Moment, trying to Keep from Crying...AGAIN, cause then they wanna Blame EVERYTHING on Depression instead of FRUSTRATION...I said, here, Look at my Medical Reports for the Past 6 YEARS...I was Underweight when this Issue Started...
I Almost Lost My Life, at the very least I came VERY Close to Losing my Legs...
He called for a CT Scan...I Had a HUGE Blockage in my Abdominal Aorta...Later found out to be a Blood Clot...to Large to have gone down either Leg Atery, it stayed right where it splits off...Blocking the Flow of Blood...So Why did my Legs NOT turn Blue ?? Because Despite my Pain, I Remained fairly Active, and new veins had Formed to Bypass the blockage naturally, but they were really To Small to "Keep Up"...but large enuff to keep my legs lookin "Normal" upon rest...
the Point IS...they DON"T Listen...they Don't Hear US...and It Angers me to the Point of wanting to become Physically Violent when I hear there Condesending TONE...I want to take Heads OFF.
when I awoke from that Surgery...the Very First thing I did was, tilt my feet up towards my Legs...OMG !! No Pain !! WoW !! I walked ALL Night Long !! they kept having to come Find me to check my pressures...!!!
DEMAND to be TREATED with Respect...DEMAND it...do the Research...don't Over explain...Keep it all Real Simple so their Brains don't Cloud UP...Flippin Dr.s
I Understand !! Hugs !!
Any doctor started talking to me about God and Christianity would very soon become my ex-doctor!
Glad you found a good one!
Lyn
I wish you well with your new doc and the surgery.
As for the praying - whether you're religious or not, that is not his role.
