OK, all, I'm going for a cheerful check-in. Just weird fun facts, and big hugs of support and that.
Pumas (yes, my avatar animal) have webbing on their feet to deal with walking on deep snow.... And brace yourself... So do some house cats! The webbing isn't pronounced, but it helps them deal with water, mud, snow, and other things between the cat and a meal. BTW, cat claws are not retractable. Theyr'e PROtractable ---- that is, they spend their time in hiding until they pop out like Wolverine's scythes in the X-men (Hello, Dahlia!). Technically, REtractable means they can be withdrawn but are usually "out". Insert own jokes about male genitalia here if you wish, b/c heaven knows my hubby just did.
Scotland (och aye!) has a thistle for a national flower, and ... the national animal is the unicorn. No joke. I can't make that up. The royal coat of arms for Scotland (when it had its own royals) was supported by... two unicorns.
Astronauts say space smells liek hot metal, or scorching steak. I'd like to point out that they are not actually inhaling smells from space directly, b/c if they did, they'd die. Space bad for unprotected noses, eyes, faces, etc.
That said, astrophycicists have calculated that space would *taste* like raspberries.
Yes, your dog doe sunderstand you! Studies show that dogs understand up to 50 or more words in English, and favor words with T and R sounds, but that may be related to the wrod... treat! (no joke, serious flaw in the study, of course the dogs favor the word "treat", duh...)
Got a kidney stone to pass? Ride Thunder MOuntaibn. Apparently, sitting on the rear of that roller coaster has caused kidney stones to pass during or shortly afterwards... And... Well, you don't pass kidney stones minus pee that I know of, and now I have another reason to avoid DisneyWorld. (BTw, best results fo rpassing kidney stones? Rear of coaster. B/c, y'know. Hey. If I am about to have a moment like that, I want to ride a roller coaster?)
RIP Sandy Island. It appeared on nautical charts courtesy Captain Cook in the Pacific... and when Aussies went to chart it for maps in 2012 (or so says the story)... There was no island. Never had been. Odds are Cook saw a floating raft of volcanic pumice and such froma distance, called it an island, and sailed on.
The Greenland shark can live hundreds of years. A specimen caught and carbon-dated in the 2010s was shown to have been about 390 years old. Yoiks.
A study showed highly stressed men prefer women with higher BMIs, or, as they say, "curvier figures". Is this relevant to any damn thing ever? Hmm...
On which note... MONDAY BLESSINGS AND HUGS TO YOU!
Hey, everybody, just wanting to say thanks for getting me through the latest gut punch of another pandemic travel ban. As you all know, I got PTSD growing up in Mexico and Uruguay as a missionary kids with parents who weren't evacuated from a war zone. They got PTSD really bad and turned to violence in the house that sadly matched the violence of the war out in the streets.I wasn't a soldier,...
