What I noticed happening is I was getting chain letters from people I don't know. Some people simply reply to all and don't realize they are sending things to complete strangers. I would also email them and if that didn't work, I would simply block them.
Thanks for bringing this up. I don't know if I helped you at all, but my rambling has helped me. LOL

I don't like the ones that say forward or something bad will happen. I've already had one of the worst things happen recently, so if anyone is reading this that sends them to me, please don't. I love you all, but they make me feel odd if I don't participate.
Respectfully,
Laurie
I have this problem as well. I basically just delete it - my sister sends these to me and when I get one and delete it she knows I'm not interested and doesn't bug me about it. Others who bug me get told to not send chain letters to me because I'm busy. I say this in a nicer way of course. Good luck! Cat
I always delete them. If it appears to be something harmful, ie, "stalkers after DS women" or "mass murderer on DS under such-and-such a name," I reply to sender that it sounds like a hoax, appealing to their logic. For instance, if the name of a mass murderer is already known, doesn't it seem logical that Admin. would already have contacted authorities? (There are ways to track people - plus a known murderer is not going to be hanging out on an online community to suck women in - not once his identity is known). Same with stalkers - once they're 'outed" they're tracked down by authorities if it's legit. So they aren't going to hang out on an online board where they can easily be tracked down by aruthorities once their ID is known.
If people would just stop and take a breath and 'think" something through before simply hitting the key, most of these types of urban legends would be squelched before they gained such lives of their own.
As for the ones saying someting good or bad will happen depending on certain actions on my part, those are simply annoying to me. I just delete, or let the sender know to delete me from their chain letter lists.
Finally, if I'm "really" annoyed, I notify senders that not long ago, Doug asked DSers to stop sending chain letters as they clog the system and cause slow-downs and actual crashes. And I direct them to the rules which say clearly, "no chain letters."
If none of these efforts produce results, I let the person know I'm blocking them and why. and I move on to enjoying my life.
Blessed be.
Trish
