First I would like to thank Dixie Rose and Sunshine Laurie for telling me about this site it's wonderful and all of you have been so helpful. Now I would like to say stop laughing (you know who you are)!!! LOL LOL
I have posted this on another site and got Hugh laughs about it but it is a problem in my life that I can't seem to figure out. I am on lots of narcotic's for my FM, Neuropathy and other things. I had been taking 4 stool softners and 3 laxatives everyday for the last 3 years or so because I get such bad constipation. When I posted this on the other site people told me not to take so many laxatives because your body will forget how to get it out on it's own. Well that scared the hell out of me so I stopped taking them.
I saw my PCP and told him about it in hopes to get something to help me - WRONG - he said eat more veggies and do stop taking those laxatives. So I did, no help what so ever. So I went to my pain doc and told him he said the same thing - eat more veggies, so I did. Well for the last 5 days I have been so stopped up that I looked 6 months pregnant and the pain of moving hurt like hell.
Yesterday I went to the drug store and got Citrate (spelling?) to help me. I drank the whole bottle yesterday and now I can't stop going to the bathroom. I'm afriad to leave the bathroom to tell you the truth.
So my question is...can anyone out there please tell me how you do it??? I can't stand being stopped up it really hurts but just eating more veggies is not doing it. I am very sure that some of you must have the same problem so any advice on the matter would make my little butt very happy...
Thank you very much for any info,
V

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Go to your local grocery store and purchase a tub of probiotic yogurt (I also prefer the organic one) Eat a small bowl of that topped with some roasted flax seeds (also available at your local grocery store) and increase the amount of water you drink. Do that every morning and you will notice a difference almost immediately!
Your poor little butt will thank you for it!

My gastroenterologist prescribed Metoclopram - 1 tablet 2 x daily - the pain meds I was on put my colon to sleep, so to speak. I also have used Senekot (otc) which worked when the other otcs didn't.
Hope you feel better soon!

Ouch, That sounds awful. I got rid of IBS but I had the opposite of what you have, the runs! I used probiotics and some other things from the health food store. Now I go daily, sometimes twice and no more runs. I also suggest a big bowl of Raisin Bran or a few handfuls of trail mix.
Good Luck, Keleee :)
I also have adhesions wrapped around and in my bowel and abdominal organs. They are adheared to the lining and walls. I have had a huge problem with constipation since my ostomy reversal. I have had 2 total blockages and 2 partial ones. I don't have feeling anymore so I am not able to push very well. I use laxatives and softeners, plus enemas. I eat a high fiber diet and a lot of water. Also walking helps. Even just moving around will help keep things moving. My surgeon told me the best thing to do is to try to keep moving around. I know it is very hard to do that at times. But I keep getting up. I hope things get better for you.
