u can see a dr at the health dept for fibro? i had no clue wow i will have to look in to it.. all i can say is go in with an open mind maybe there will be a slight chance he wont be a huge idiot...**hugs**

ASK HIM if he believes in and treats Fibro. If he doesn't or hem haws around, tell him you would like to see someone more open-minded and knowledgeable. I will pray that he is not a dumb-ass when it comes to FMS.

I remember this well and being a total wreck for ages when my review for CFS came up. In fact, I could just go to that scared place with you thinking of it.

Yes they can send you to the doctor of their choice if you are under review. It sucks.

However, that being said, the doctor should have knowledge of the illness that you are applying for. Well you didn't apply for the illness but the disability...

Things that might be comforting. My doctor that saw me for CFS, considered himself an expert in CFS. He was an ass. BUT, that being said, he knew what he was looking at although I will never forgive him for asking if I had gained weight and then telling me something like well no doubt that is a sign. I wanted to beat it into him that was the least of my "signs". I was so flustered that I blew all these dates when he started asking them to me. I freaked out when I realized it and called cuz I didn't want them thinking I was lieing. Then I realized is was indicative of the fog...lol.

Also, depending on exactly who you are being called in for, you would have an appeal process most likely if the doctor claims you are fine.

Also, this is just ONE piece of information they go by. Your own docs have more sway than a one time appearance with a stranger. This doctor is really, IMHO, checking as much to see if YOUR doctor is lieing, much more than you.

How soon is this appointment hun? Remember to breath, call your own doc if you have questions and look up the one you are gonna see.

Why are you seeing a doctor at the Health Dept.? Here, the Health Dept. only had R.N.'s, and they only do Women and Baby care, paps. infant well-baby checks, shots that sort of thing. I would certainly find out more about this before I went in. Is this doctor connected with your disability claim somehow? Do you have a doctor already? I would be very hesitant to see a doctor who does not understand fibro if he has any impact on your disability claim. Good luck and let us know how this goes.

KISKA, I WENT TO 2 OF THEIR DR. B4 I WAS REVIEWED AND IT WASN'T BAD FOR ME. ONE WAS A CHIRO. AND ONE A SHRINK. AT THE TIME I DIDN'T HAVE FIBRO THEY WERE TRYING TO DETERMINE JUST WHAT I DID HAVE AND I THINK THE SHRINK HELPED ME MORE THAN THE CHRIO. SHE PUT ME DOWN AS PTSD AND I PASSED THRU IN 6 WEEKS. SO YOU MAY JUST WANT TO PLAY IT BY EAR AND SEE IF SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG WITH YOU ALONG WITH THE FIBRO. I KNOW IT'S NOT THAT EASY FOR OTHERS AS IT WAS FOR ME AND I WAS BLESSED, BUT YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT A SHOT. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN DOCTORS SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU ARE GOING TO END UP WITH. SO TRY TO WALK IN FAITH AND BELIEVE THAT THIS IS YOURS AND THAT THEY DO OWE IT TO YOU. I WILL PRAY....LOVE...HELEN

Because fibro has no validation of its existence. I was forced with many barriers for several years. I wrote to the Governor and also other branches of Government for help and to tell my story on how I was being treated. So with my permission. In order to get the help and disability I need. This is out of my hands and into strangers.

Well, there is more known about it than before, and Fibro is now a diagnosis accepted by the Veteran's Administration and by Social Security, so hopefully it will be ok. At least you are being seen, and hopefully it will be a doctor who knows enough about fibro to be able to see that you have it. I wish you luck. Prayers and hugs

You didnt mention why you have been asked for this evaluation. If it is for Social Security disability, they do not accept FM as a basis for a claim. However, I am sure you have a boatload of related health issues which would qualify you. The best thing you can do for yourself right off the bat is to take someone you trust with you. Do not be afraid to tell the doctors what they need to say to get you what you want. You can also tell them up front you have grave concerns about this exam, and make sure you go in with a list of every question or concern you need answered. Finally, make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. Should you need some sort of legal or administrative assistance later on, you will need a good paper trail.

well, I missed the earlier post that said FM is a basis for disability. I hope so, because I am sure I am going to have to convert my claim at some point. Sorry to pass on bad info - I know that doesnt help.
