Hi everyone, I am very new to this but thought I would like to share my experience with others.
When my son was 16 he was hospitalized with severe depression and at risk of suicide. He is now 19 and the last 3 years have been like a roller coaster ride for all of us. Everytime I think he is getting his life together, he crashes again. About 3 months ago he was diagnosed with Bipolar and started taking Epilim along with his antidepressant Auropax. BA is a beautiful young man but he has great difficulty holding down a job or a friendship, he lacks self confidence but comes accross as if he is over confident. At times he believes that everyone is out to get him, he accuses strangers of looking at him or talking about him. BA becomes very aggressive and agitated over the smallest things. When he is really low he covers his face with hooded jumpers or hats and constantly worries about his body image. It breaks my heart! BA lives about 8 hrs away from us and feels very isolated and alone, he wants to come home so we are working on that. Most of the time he pretends all is ok but lately life has been so difficult that I encouraged him to go back to his GP. BA is having a psychological evaluation with his GP tomorrow.
I am relieved that he is getting the help he needs but i just wish i could do more. When they are little, a plaster and a kiss will fix everything! Oh how i wish it was that easy now.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
pretty extensive network of support groups. Your son may benefit also- as it sounds as if he is feeling alienated & ashamed.
It sounds like you might be outside the US, because I have never heard of those meds. Not sure if NAMI has international groups. I believe DBSA does.
A General Practitioner is not really a specialist in psychiatry. Perhaps he should see a psychiatrist too, as well as a therapist, since most pdocs dont do counseling, they mostly oversee medication response.
BA rang today after visiting his GP. Now has a referal to a clinic in Sydney so that will be the first step after we get him back home.
I will check out the websites suggested.
