Hello, I have been on vacation the last week and had time to think. My daughter is in a Ky prison. I have come to the realization that this country is in dire need of prison reform. This system does NOT work, in fact the entire judicial system stinks. It costs $47,000. per inmate, per year in the Commonwealth of Ky to house a prisoner. First and foremost is slapping someone with a felony, especially for non-volent offenses, this completely ruins their chances for gainful employment when they get out. They can go back to school to learn a new trade, but then what? They can't get hired due to the felony record. Why not take the money that is takes to house these men and women and teach them a skill to use on the outside. The medical field is wide open and in fact is recession-proof, We need coders, billers, lab techicians, etc. Doctors and nurses, sure but all of the jobs in between are desperate to be filled. I would rather spend my taxes on re-educatin people, and intensive parobation instead of throwing them in a facility. Why not counsel these folks instead of incarceration?
