It was so obvious to everyone else, yet Dad just didn't see himself in any of it.
I remember reading somewhere that if you ask an addict's 'friend' how they're doing-- they will tell you the truth. The 'friend' will see the addict, yet they cannot see those same behaviors and problems in themselves.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound so pessimistic-- if it helps even one person then it is worth the try. I'm just tired of banging my head against the wall these days.
I don't know if addicts have the ability to even comprehend what they are doing to their friends and family. From my experience, it is not until they become healthy do they get outside of themselves and begin to care about anything but their DOC.
