Rehab and insurance, just one more problem!

Hey Everone,
Things seem to be going good for my wife in rehab. However, a little problem has developed at home. Prior to her leaving she called the Rehab Center, gave them her insurance information and they told her that they would precertify her and call back if the insurance would pay. They called back. She went to rehab on 11-26-2007. Fast forward to today. I get a letter in the mail telling me that the insurance isn't going to pay for the rehab. Apparently I am on the hook for 15 days of 24/7 in patient rehab. It appears that the individual my wife spoke to was not totally up front. Also my wife was totally coherent when she spoke with this person. Everyone was gone from the office portion of the rehab center when I called today. What would the ramifications be if she came home and went to outpatient rehab? Would pulling her out in the middle do more harm. Also, what do you think 15 days of inpatient rehab gonna cost? Any thoughts or advice appreciated. May God bless you all.

Our experience... Our son was unable to fulfill his time at an inpatient rehab. He spent approx. 4 days there. He had no insurance. The rehab place only refunded a small portion of the $$$. It ended up being over $3000 for 4 days. That hurt! We are just praying that they were honest with us. I pray that your situation turns out. As far as bringing your wife out of rehab mid-way into her treatment. Our son is doing ok now in an outpatient treatment here in our community. Make sure you check out all your resources. God Bless.

WOW. It makes you wonder about the Rehab business. But Im sure if they prequalified her they will correct the situation with the Insurance co. Don't worry until you talk with the rehab people and they talk to the Insurance co. GOD BLESS

Thanks for the responses. I was freaking out alot, but now just a little! I am getting my battle plan together to contact the insurance company tomorrow first thing. After that I am going to call the guy at the rehab that checked on our insurance. I am glad I kept his name and number now. If I can get him to commit verbally that he did tell my wife that it was precertified I should have a good case either way. By the way $3,000.00 for four days WOW! Oh well, you can't take it with you and if it is effective it is worth 10 times that. Have a good night everyone.

I just got back from rehab myself, and my insurance didn't pay anything and I put it all on a credit card/loans.....now I am 100,000 in debt (only 45,000 from rehab) BUT guess what!? IT IS WORTH IT.....have faith, hang in there and look up some government grants or scholarship options....I didn't qualify, but maybe you will....good luck!!

contact the billing department at the rehab. Let them know that your wife was told that she was prequalified and explain the letter you got. Sometimes the rehab billing department didn't code or do their billing correctly so that your insurance company would approve. They need to look into it before you agree to pay for anything.

OK, I talked to a lady in the billing department at the facility today. She asked that I fax the letter that I received from the insurance company. I faxed it and did not hear from her for several hours. I called her back and inquired as to whether or not she had received the fax. She told me that she had not been up the machine to get the fax, however she had spoken with the people who deal directly with the insurance company and I was told the same thing my wife was told prior to her departure. She advised that if there is a further problem they will just change some of the verbage and /or insurance codes. She advised that the insurance will pay. I'm still not 100% convinced, but at least I have two recorded telephone conversations of an employee of the facility telling me that the insurance is not a problem. I am a little relieved. Also, my wife got moved to a residential setting today ( I think that's what they call it) so she is staying in an apartment on the grounds of the facility!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
