Essential Tremor Support Group
Essential Tremor (ET) is a neurological disorder characterized by shaking of hands (and sometimes other parts of the body including the head), evoked by intentional movements. The incidence is unknown, but is estimated to be as common as one person in 20, and it is the most common type of tremor and also the most commonly observed movement disorder.

ey All! I am new to the community and had some questions. I was diagnosed with BETs when I was 27 (now 37). They have gotten worse over the last year. I have also noticed a change in my symptoms. They've become somewhat more trunk/torso heavy along with slight head tremors. I noticed that my limbs feel heavy and my muscles feel tight. My concentration has become scattered and I'm developing a case of the dropsies. I had a blood test that shows that I carry the marker for RA (Rhumatoid Arthritis). Ater all that exposition, my question: Are tremors. HD and RA related?
*Blood test for HD marker forth coming.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
had ET for MANY years, and had it much worse than I do. I KNOW he never had those symptoms, either, so I would advise you to go to a GOOD neurologist to find out. Are you dropping things because of numbness or some other reason? I have NO idea if these conditions are related. In fact, I don't know what HD is.
Could you please tell me? Thanks. The one thing I've always found is that I can find out almost ANY information on the internet, so I'm going to check it out. I'd like to know what you find out.......OK? If I find out any pertinent
information, I'll add it to your "Replies". Good luck....SK77 (Kay)
I was thinking that your symptoms sound like PD...maybe. I've heard many plp in the PD forum say that they started out with ET for years....then progressed to PD. This worries me. I'm afraid that I'll be Dx with either MS or PD in the future.

We spoke about medications. But, we came to the determination that the side effects would be worse than the tremors. I partake an occasional beer or two to settle my tremors down.
Since the re-confirmation of the EBT, I am concerned about EBT being related or developing into PD. The idea of it lurks in the back of my mind. Is there a test that one can take or find out if one has the marker for such things?
--Thanks
I was told by my neurologist that PD doesn't have any tests. But, I was told that in PD, you continue to shake and tremor while at rest. ET, you don't tremor at rest. Also, with ET, your body, hands and face don't become "deformed or disfigured". In PD, your hands would definitely show a more rythmic tremor as well as your hands would look differently, like you were grasping onto something all the time. Your face would get a "frozen" look and your head would usually be in a weird position, like you are looking at something downward and next to you. I hope this helps hon and I hope that you can get some relief. Take care, Wolfmoon
