Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.

Has anyone ever had one? Does it hurt as bad as I have been told?

Mine didn't hurt, you may be a little sore after if the endo is acting up. That is the only time it was tender to have done. Good luck, its not that bad...Hugs

Mine did...sorry....but I have cysts in my ovaries and it hurt when she touched them, I think for Endo it wouldn't be so bad.

If you can cope with a smear, then it's ok, it's slightly smaller than the instrument they use to open up your vagina to take a smear, they may also do an abdominal ultrasound while your there, it's cold & because they move it about a little it can be uncomfortable, ask to have a look at the monitor, see what part of your anatomy is causing you so much grief!!! :o)

I have had many due to infertility treatments. Mine have been a little uncomfortable due to fibroids. Just take a deep breath and relax, you will be fine :-)

The procedure itself does not hurt it is only if you have health issues such as cysts, fibroids and tenderness. First you have to completely undress your bottom half, so it worth wearing a skirt. They put a small towel around you to keep a little modesty and moisten you down below so they can input the instruments with the minimal discomfort. I can't remember if they put a clamp to keep everything open like they do with a smear test, but the scanner that they do put inside you is quite thin and is also lubricated. They will go around and if you get any discomfort they will try to approach the sore area more slowly or tell you to wait a little while so they can take a photo. The procedure is over before you know it. It is worth it to keep talking to the sonographer and see if they see anything untoward as not only will this keep your mind off of the task in hand but you will also gain a bit more knowledge about if there is any health complications. I think the worst part about the procedure is the embarassment of getting undressed, so if you can handle that you'll be fine.

Thank you for your help. I am worried that because I am so tender that I can't even have a pelvic exam done with out passing out that it is going to be painful. But thank you for helping me put my mind to ease!

I am that tender too when it comes to paps and internal exams...but I didn't find the internal ultrasound too horrible. It was pretty uncomfortable...but it doesn't last long. And it's kinda cool to see what's in there!

mine wasnt that bad i thought it was going to be worse. ive never had sex so it hurt some but im not sure.. but i was a little sore for a couple hours

I had my first one before I had had sex too...and wondered if some of the pain I had experienced was from that or not. But I had about the same amount of discomfort the next couple times....and had much more pain with the sex.

I've had many ultrasounds - both intenal and external. It is a bit uncomfortable, but the good thing is that you don't have to have a full bladder like the normal ultrasound, so for me, that relieves a lot of the pain. I not only have endo, but also PCOS and fibroids, so depending on when I have to get one done, it can be slightly painful. The technician usually can't tell you much of anything because they want the doctor to give you the results. Just remember to breathe slowly, stay calm, and if it helps you feel any better, think about it as getting one step closer to figuring out what exactly is causing your pain. Good luck to you!

I've had this done, it was not bad.... but afterwards lots of pain bc my endo was flared up

Many, many times...sometimes it's a little uncomfortable but it's not that bad. Maybe take a Tylenol a hour before just incase if your worried about it.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
