Endometriosis Support Group
Endometriosis is a common medical condition where the tissue lining the uterus is found outside of the uterus, typically affecting other organs in the pelvis. The condition can lead to serious health problems, primarily pain and infertility. A major symptom of endometriosis is pain, mostly in the lower abdomen, lower back, and pelvic area.

I have dealt with endo for almost 24 years. I resorted to a partial hyst in February of this year. the pain returned about 4 months post-op. I have my 8-month post-op appt today. the constant pain is from my adhesions. dr said that I'm just going to have learn to live with that because there isn't any more we can do. now the endo pain is rearing IT'S ugly head, on top of ovarian cysts (they left the right ovary because of my age)
any ideas other than shooting myself and getting it over with?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
My doctor added, if an ovary or part of an ovary remained inside, I would be in the same pain/condition within 1 year of having the hysterectomy. Maybe you should get a second opinion. I know it is difficult to change doctors once you have a rapport built with one. However, a doctor telling you to just deal with it, is not acceptable. You have to be an advocate for your health, or no one will. GET strong and demand the attention that your health care deserves. Hugs & Kisses!!!! Keep your head up.
My aunt has a long history with endo. She had a hyst. It didn't help her. The endo was everywhere. and to make matters worse they did not sew her up properly and her insides fell into the place where her uterus had been.
Please get a second or third opinion.
If the endo is already in your other parts a hysto may not be the answer.
I will not get one because of my aunts experience, as well I have it in my kidneys and bowels... so there is no point as far as I understand....
I wish you all the best and will talk to God reminding him to take care of you
For those of us who haven't had a hysto, I am learning more and more that HYSTERECTOMIES DO NOT HELP ENDO the majority of the time! I am reading "Hysterectomy Hoax" and I think we all should read it! We have other organs in our bodies, besides our ovaries, that produce estrogen so even after a hysto, if there is the tiniest adhesion left, there's still going to be pain. Maybe not as much as before the hysto, but maybe so too.
I will not get a hysto, there seems to be more negative than positive effects!
Again, I am so sorry you are still in pain - I will include you in my prayers!
2000 - 2 laps and a hemorrogic(sp) cyst removed. Diagnosised with Endo.
2002 - 1 lap to remove implants/scar tissue.
2003 - 2 laps to remove implants on bladder/scar tissue
2004 - 1 lap to remove implants/scar tissue. Tired of this. Thought hysterectomy would end the pain. Complete hysterectomy
2005 - Emergency surgery, implants/scar tissue squeezing colon.
2006 - Tune up again(scar tissue)
2007 - Scheduled for surgery in mid-November for another tune up.
My doctor told me that some people are under the impression that a hysterectomy is a cure-all when it fact its not. It all depends on bad the endo or the reason for the hysterectomy. It depends on whether or not you are on HRT, because if you had implants in your abdomen the HRT will cause the cells to continue to grow. It also depends on how your body heals itself. She also said that there is this new medicine out there for those of us that suffer continously with this. It is done by applying this medicine to the wall of the abdomen and surrounding tissues much like you would spread lotion and it makes the walls slippery so the implants and scar tissue can not attach themselves. She said the FDA just approved it late last year and she has seen remarkable results. I cant remember the name of it but when I see her on Tuesday, I will write it down and share it. I, like you, am tired. Right now I have a big mass in my left hip area which is prolly more scar tissue and adhesions. The one good thing about my doctor is she was a sufferer of Endo and fully understands everything with this disease and for that I am grateful. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I will keep you informed of what is happening and that new drug.

You also might want to look into some homopathic & alternative medicine solutions to help you manage the pain.
I'd definitely start shopping for another doctor; although it seems like most ob/gyn's still insist that a hysterectomy is the only solution even when it's not.
According to an article that I read in Prevention magazine (it was also on CNN.com.), the hysterectomy is the number 1 surgery that is performed unnecessarily. Based on my research, the only time hysterectomy is the answer is to remove cancer.
