I have had eczema since before I can remember! I mainly have it very bad on my legs which is now spreading down to my ankles and feet. And I often have flares on the inside of my forearms. I have been told by a few people including some dermatologists that going to a tanning bed will help even out my skin and calm down the eczema. Has anyone else tried this? Any good results?

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Natural Eczema Treatment With Virgin Coconut Oil
A natural eczema treatment can be found in the use of virgin coconut oil. In fact, I have gotten great results with its use on my dry eczema skin. As it is, I have to be careful not to use products that contain fragrance or chemical substances. I have found that natural oils make a far better alternative, in helping to moisturize and hydrate my skin. What is particularly useful to know is that the constituents of natural oils are perfect for the body. Virgin coconut oil is now touted to be one of the best natural eczema treatments that you can find around.
What Is Eczema?
The term "eczema" or "dermatitis" has been used to describe a group of skin problems where the skin becomes itchy and inflamed, and thus red splotches become visible. In a larger scale, eczema is also grouped with the classic allergic diseases, asthma and hay fever, in a complex that is termed "atopy" (from the Greek word "atopos", meaning "out of place").
Eczema is always marked by dry skin. The eczema skin cannot protect itself from increased rate of evaporation, and the loss of moisture leads to further dryness. In turn, the dry skin gets more irritated and itchy, leading to increased scratching that worsens the rash. The itchy, red rash can affect the entire body. Many people get it in the joints of the arms, especially the inside of the elbows, or the joints of the leg, especially at the back of the knees.
Natural Eczema Treatment Versus Steroids
The conventional method of treatment for eczema is by way of steroid applications. However, long term use produces side effects like "thinning of the skin", leading to increased vulnerability to bacterial infection, and hence aggravating the problem of eczema. Alternative health experts also suggest that any form of drugs increases toxicity to the body and this can create other health problems.
Choose Organic And Virgin Coconut Oil For Eczema Natural Treatment
It is best to select coconut oil that is both organic and virgin, as use for a natural treatment for eczema.
Organic Coconut Oil. Dry eczema skin can be a symptom of a highly toxic body. Hence, the last thing you want to do is to use a product that is not produced organically.
Virgin Coconut Oil. Virgin coconut oil is made by using fresh coconut meat with little or no processing, or what is called non-copra.
Most commercial grade coconut oils are produced from copra. Most of the copra, the meat of the coconut, is dried under the sun in the open air, where it gets exposed to insects and moulds. The standard end product made from copra is RBD coconut oil. RBD means refined, bleached, and deodorized. Both high heat and chemicals (e.g. solvent extractions) are used in this method.
A fragrant smell is characteristic of virgin coconut oils. Copra-based refined coconut oils have no taste or fragrance due to the refining process.
A very good treatment for my eczema is going to the beach. I'll also tan a little, but the mixture of saltwater and sun just so happens to help calm down my sores and scars- mainly the scars.
The only thing i have to do is firstly get the courage to wear shorts and ignore the stares of people looking at my 'scarred up chicken legs'.... LOL!
I do minimal tanning (5mins every 2 weeks) and it compeltely changes my life. Just by doing this I never ever have any symptoms. Its so ironic bc I know tanning is bad but it truly is the only treament that has been effective. Its also odd to me that both sun exposure and artificial UV exposure have the same effect.
I am not a tanorexic by any means, and actually gave it up the tanning booth 3 years ago bc I know the risks for skin cancer are increased. Even though it always helped my eczema, I vowed to find another form of treatment. However, every year after another boatload of Rx ointments/creams/etc I found yet again, that my eczema just kept getting worse.
This past month as my eczema was reviving itself as the freezing cold, dry weather returned, I tried a tanning booth for 4 mintues. And low and behold, all signs and symptoms cleared up immediately. Its been 3 weeks and they have not returned.
With a name like ours we should work together.
Have you considered treating the basics, not trying to supress the symptoms?
Eczema is mostly, the body throwing out toxins.
