So I went shopping this weekend with three friends. We went into a store and my friend, we'll call her Sue, tried on some dresses in a store. Then we went next door to the same store but it was for plus sizes and my other friend we'll call her Jane wanted to try on dresses. So Sue and I are thumbing through dresses for Jane, while she and the other friend were a ways over doing the same thing. Next thing we know the sales woman walks up to Sue and I and says not to nicely in my opinion, "You do know we are a plus size store ladies? We don't have anything in here for you." My friend and I were speechless. We just stuttered,"Well we're with a friend over there. She's trying on dresses."
What if we had of been christmas shopping or something? They sold jewellry and other things in there as well.
So after we left we told the other friends what she had said to us and Jane said that was so rude. No one would say something like that to her in the first store.
It's just goes to show how screwed up people are. I actually felt guilty for being thin when that lady said that to us. Like she thought I was in there just to make others feel bad for not being the same size as me.
It was kind of funny but not very nice.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
There could have been SO many reasons you were there, and she should have never said that to you, I agree. But I see it from her standpoint of just defending herself due to harsh memories and cruel individuals.
We left the shop, but not before my sister said "Well you can kiss my chubby backside, you skinny bitch!"
I relate this sorry tale to ilustrate how sensitive all woman appear to be in the arena of buying and selling clothes. It could have been a disaster for my sister, who has been in recovery from bulimia for 5 years, but instead we remember it with hilarity as we picture the expression on the sales girl's face! hehe!
This happens to pretty much anyone. The thin person shopping in the plus size store. The not-a-size-4 shopping in Express. The preppy chick shopping in Hot Topic. The emo chick shopping in Lane Bryant. Hell, I've witnessed some good ol' geek vs computer illiterate discrimation.
Anytime you don't fit into someone's square box, you get flack. That's just the way of the world. The way of the world also is - that we do a pretty good job of putting ourselves and everyone else around us into those boxes in the first place.
And really, wtf (sorry), why do they call it a plus size store. Just even labelling it as such is demoralizing...that's why for about 10 years, I didn't shop anywhere but Walmart - I didn't want to be labelled before I put clothes on!
