OK, so I'm pretty sure we've all heard how the media is responsible for our eating disorders. But I'm just wondering for how many of you it was actually a factor.
I know that for me magazines and TV didn't become a problem until I actually had the eating disorder. I also had a strange obsession with watching the Food Network.
I don't blame the media for my eating disorder. I DO think that the media does in fact put a ridiculous amount of pressure on people- especially young girls- to look, act and dress a certain way, but I pin my ED to desire for perfection as well as self-hatred.
Any thoughts on this? Did the media influence your ED?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
But I think the media influenced me after I was diagnosed with ED because suddenly I realised that all these girls on the covers of magazines had exactly what I wanted, despite the fact that I don't wear make-up and despise fashion. The media is definitely influential to an extent
Anyway Karrin, seems like once again, we have much in common. /hugs and high five
Also, media means nothing to me as far as I can tell. It's my skinny friends- but then it's not, it's so messed up. I only like looking at models now for their shoulders and skinny legs...
Now I feel weird saying that, but yeah, jealousy of little kids. I feel that too.
I never developed an ED due to the media, but when I need 'thinspiration' or if i see a really thin celeb then it adds to it..
