I just wonder if anyone gets 'triggered' or upset that there are adverts on television about dieting constantly. I am sure there must have been a discussion about the Google diet tips that come along with DS.
One really bad night I watched a commercial for Lypozine(sp)
and decided to call. I actually told them that I was significantly underweight. They explained to me that I could still benefit from their product. I was disgusted and at the same time about ot get my credit card out and buy this crap.
After reading another post on this site about perception of EDs I wonder to myself if the Media has an ED. I'm not just talking about about the famous actors we all hear about having a problem but it's obvious we live in a society (at least in the US) obsessed with appearance. I realize this isn't a new thought, but I wonder do we how the power to change this stigma. I feel like you are either happily thin or happily plus sized I have yet to see the happily normal sized people. I see television shows about 'big is beautiful' then I change the channel
and I see new photos of Nicole Richie and how great she looks. Where is the medium.
My ideas are triggered by these commercials for pill or plans, I wonder if anyone is happy with who they are.
How do you feel when you come across these adverts? Do you think the stigma will ever change and can we possibly be the ones to change it?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I try to stick to channels which don't have adverts, which is possible here but I guess that's not an option for you.
I do think the tide is turning here against the obsession with body-image, but I'm not sure how much of an impact that will have on those with EDs. I suppose it depends on the root cause.
Thanks for being bored on a Saturday afternoon. I look forward to next weekend for another intelligent debate!
I have a personal to everyone in this community. If you are interested please read my journal entry. I'll mark it as "Dove's Campaign" I think my idea could be a fantastic distraction and aid us in our recovery. Maybe its all the coffee I've had this morning but I feel strongly that we are the right sort of people who could add a great deal of substance to what Dove has started.
