I think I am addicted to food and that my stomach has forgotten how to signal fullness to my brain. So!
Does anyone have any helpful tips on how to keep yourself from the cupboard when, after getting up from your homework/desk to answer a phone call, you decide those last 4 cookies look lonely and ready to be eaten... followed by the last of the chocolate milk, and then maybe a quick blt sandwich or two?
I don't have time to go out and take a walk or make a scrapbook, but I mean just what can I tell myself to keep from the fridge when I'm passing it?
(Almost everytime I pass it I just HAVE to have something).
What do you do to strengthen your willpower over cravings?
Thanks :)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
For obvious binge foods, keep them out of the house.
When I get really hungry, and want to drive to the store to buy something to binge and purge, I have started turning to working on assignments that my therapist has given me. I will tell you what it is. Write down all your irrational "equals"...for example, "looking normal = fat" or "eating = faiure." Then elaborate on these equals and really write about why you think these things. Then, after you've done all that, use a highlight and cross out that "equal" (even draw an angry face or something). Your next task is then to refute what your equal is. For example: "Looking normal does NOT mean I am fat." And then elaborate on that and be logical. This can help you seperate the irrational from the truth. It feels good to share it with a close friend or therapist too. :)
Another few things you can do: walk the dog, play with the cat, take a shower, take a nap, clean the house, draw or write poetry, meditate, make homemade playdough to get out agression, make a mix CD on your computer, write a letter to an old friend by snail mail, email folks, chat with people online, look at art online if you're into that (http://ciel-de-noir.deviantart.com/gallery/ is my account), dance to music that you like, get a couple five pound free weights and do a few reps, stretch and do some jumping jacks, play with your kids (if you have any), go to the dollar mart and buy trinkets for loved ones, write a letter to your eating disorder about how much you hate it, count the cash that you can save if you don't binge, surf the net and "window shop" on clothing stores, go to the library and read there and maybe even see if they have voluntary positions open for reading to children, or go to Barnes and Nobles/Borders and read there. Should I list any more?
It's the sweet from the apple, that fills the sugar craving. The fibre that fills the carb craving and the juice that fills the...juice craving. It's your cookies and chips and soda in a small fresh round shape called an apple. Plus, it's a nature's tooth brush.
just think you are better than that. you have got this far in your life, dont give up on your self.
also like lapetitemoi said sugar will give you cravings, sweets make you hungry.
proteins will curb your cravings.
i know i binge on a night time,
so i try to make sure i spend the evening with my boyfriend or a house mate so i dont get the chance to binge, becasue i will NEVER binge infront of people.
realise your triggers, and you can learn to prevent them.
i know a girl who has told her fiance' about her disorder and she gets him to walk her to the kitchen on a night time, if she wants to go down stairs for a glass of water, just to make sure she doesnt binge on the way.
i still struggle with eating LOADS when i studdy, coz i am alone, and i get bored and anxious...
anyway, hope that helped.
and habanera, i hope you start to feel better, and im sure you will make some friends.
