Hi everyone,
Sorry again for posting, but I do have a lot of questions considering I'm really open to recovery right now at this stage of my life, yet FRIGHTENED like hell. So I'm hoping some of you guys can answer something for me, if possible.
My doctors are asking me to go into an IP program to put on a certain amount of weight, and my thinking, is that I want to be OUT by Christmas so I don't miss the holidays. I was wondering for those of you that were in IP for weight gain, how long it took for x-amount of pounds. I know everyone is totally different, but I was just looking for an average. This is not trying to sound like a medical question, but rather yet if you feel I'd be out by Xmas. I do have to put on at least 8 pounds or so. Anyway, just wondering what you guys felt and how long you did it for, if thats OK.
Thank you!
Oh, and this would most likely be with the aid of an NG tube :(

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
i have been a ip give it ago babes will help all depends on how you cope with the plan and amount of Cal's you will have in diet i think if go now y may be out for Xmas
i hated ip so much i didn't respond to plan so tuck me ages to get there yes we are all so different babes go with ya heart Hun
I have been IP 7 times each amount of time I stayed inwas different depending on how well I was 1. put on and keep my weight 2. was active in the groups and the community. 3. insurance 4. the clinic you go to. Some places have a mandatory length of stay like Renfrew or Remuda Ranch and other places just for ED. ED clinics in hospitals are often put under more pressure by insurance.
Not only am I a person with a ED I also worked as a social worker so I have a good understanding on what the criteria is to keep someone IP. Insurance is a HUGE factor, if you take that away your left with the patient's progress. My best advice is, if you are ready to kick your ED in the butt , then do your best to utilize every resource the hospital has to offer. The better you are able to do, the less important you need to be IP. When you get to speak with your Doc he or will (after many questions) give you an idea of the ideal weight they would like you to be at. An NG may not be necessary if you can show that you are willing to eat at least some of your meals.I usually have a chance to eat before getting tubed, i hope that you do as well. I hate being tubed, I know it may seem like a better way to gain, but in order to be discharged you have to be able to 'eat' to some extent , show that you can handle a lower level of care.
I know that my response is a bit scattered, I am trying to think of as much as I can that may be helpful. If you want to talk about a little more openly, please feel free to message me as I would be happy to evaluate your situation using my experience as a patient and as a social worker. I wish you loads of luck, I think that since you are willing to ask for help and want to be well by christmas, that you have the strength to get though IP
well and hopefully be home before the New year ,. Also no matter what, there is going to be a Christmas every year, even if you miss this one, it was for no better reason. The is no gift like getting well and just imagine how well you will be next year if you continue to improve in your recovery. Good luck, keep an open mind, I wish you the best in your recovery!
