My daughter is now 8, diagnosed with dyspraxia around 4 years old. We've made progress on various aspects of motor skills, coordination, planning, and understand her better as a result. But we haven't cracked one issue at all, and no specialist has been able to help us.
When she is not engaged in something specific, then she likes to pick up something (key ring, piece of ribbon, something that you can shake) and walk around or stand shaking it and looking at it. She may talk to herself at the same time. Or she may just contract her muscles in her face and hands. OTs have said this is not tourettes. We try and distract her gently but she says she likes doing it. I worry because I think kids will laugh at her (although she does do it less I think at school than at home, possibly as she is too busy there). She has problems with visual spatial, so it may be related to that. But I think something more is happening.
Can anyone suggest what is going on, and how we can help her break the habit?
Thanks

I have been here before, a long long time ago and now I am back.Forgive me for not just saying what I want to say, even under a triple dose of antidepressants it is still raw and seeping and I am hesitant at revealing it as at least under the bandages around my heart I don,t have to look at how raw and wounded. My child was cleaved from my heart by his own actions. my child of ten, turning eleven...

Riddles
As i've got older i've managed to hone my fiddlings to twirling of hair and rings but i still play and fiddle with any loose thing lying around if i'm given half a chance.
If it is a problem at schoolmaybe twirling a pen in her fingers would help but i've never met a dyspraxic who got rid of this symptom.
I personally suspect it was merely a symptom of my ADD. For that I HIGHLY recommend reading the book The LCP Solution as soon as possible.
