How do you feel about Special Olympics?

sadmom
My son went to Special Olympics when he was in elementary school. I really couldn't tell if he enjoyed it or not. I think it was just a long day for him, and the best thing about it was getting to eat pizza when it was over. I'm kind of glad his middle school isn't participating in it.

I really love special olympics. I have been a hugger, I have taken many people to participate, and I have tried to get my son, 29 year old who has Asperger's to participate with all the other adults that he knows that participate. He won't yet but I haven't given up trying. My best little friend is in special olympics cheerleading in North Carolina and loves it. She has year after year taken a gold medal in it. She rocks!!!!

My sister has been participating in Special Olympics for 10 years now, as a gymnast. Its been an amazing experience for her, and for my family. Special Olympics has given her a chance to shine - something she does not have a chance to do in other areas. She's also gotten the chance to travel, having competed in the World Games in Ireland, the USA Games in Iowa, and will be competing in the World Games in October 2007 in China. My family really owes Special Olympics a lot, and its a great organization.

These are great, not only for the kids, but the parents and schools as well. My son nas 13 medals for throwing, running, and field jump. I can see the excitement in his eyes when it comes around and the self confidence he gets show on his face whenevere he touches those medals!!!

My Daughter went when she was in school and she loved it, she was the torch lighter one year ,and that was the best she got to see herself onsel;f on the news. I think it builds self esteem in kids that would otherwise not have it. I love it and me and Sharla still go watch.
